Leave it to the code sleuths of the Steam forums to find some buried details in the "Left 4 Dead 2" demo. An intrepid posted named "Fade Guy" discovered some code in one of the game's .txt files that may indicate plans for Avatar Awards including med kits, frying pans and shirts.
That may make "Left 4 Dead 2" only the second game to utilize Xbox Live's awards system behind "Splosion Man," which bit first. On the list of unearthed avatar add-ons listed in the game's .txt file are the following items, according Fade Guy's post:
• Med Kit: "earned by beating all five campaigns."
• Bull Shifters Shirt: "earned by winning 10 games of Versus."
• A Left 4 Dead 2 shirt: "earned by winning 10 games of Scavenge."
• Zombie Hand Shirt: "earned by killing 10,000 Infected."
• Depeche Mode Shirt: "earned by rescuing Gnome Chompski from the Dark Carnival."
So Depeche Mode fans on Xbox Live, rejoice, because "Left 4 Dead 2" may be your ticket to sporting band price to your fellow gamers. The is actually broken up into two sections though, with the above specifically tagged "XLAST." That may refer only XBL Avatars or not, but another list included those items above, plus a frying pan, which can be unlocked "by killing 10,000 Infected," and a garden gnome, which is unlocked "by rescuing Gnome Chompski." Those are just tagged as "In Game."
They sound quirky and fun though. I don't think I've unlocked a good gnome since using the workbench while playing "Sims."
