"Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" should be a very satisfying release for Naughty Dog. The sequel reportedly eclipsed the studio's expectations and seems primed to be among the hottest games on holiday wishlists this year. Naughty Dog obviously wants a little more buying incentive out in time to be a factor with holiday shoppers and gift card spenders, however, as they've set an end-of-year deadline for new downloadable content.
“We're working on that now, and what we're prepared to say is that there will be DLC available before the end of the year," Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hennig told Industry Gamers. "Without going into specifics, it'll involve new maps, new characters, things like that."
Notice that she described the new DLC in plural terms, meaning a variety of options may become available. In even better news, not all of the content will have a price tag attached.
"Some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable," Hennig said. "We've got a lot of people on the team working on this stuff, some really cool stuff that people will be excited about. So we're definitely taking it very seriously."
Stay tuned for exactly what these serious new maps and characters turn out to be. We'll be watching.
