I've spent around 5 or 6 hours with the preview build of "Borderlands." The only reason I haven't spent more time is because the preview build ends. You basically stop getting new quests and can't progress into new zones, as everything's locked off. It's for the best, but the fact that I've played through all that content several times over with different classes is a testament to how much I've enjoy myself. It undoubtedly hits that "Diablo" nerve that makes you not want to put the controller down.
Anyway, given the amount of time I've spent with the game, I was curious just how much meat will be in the final version. Speaking with Mikey Neumann, the Creative Director at Gearbox Software, I found out some rather interesting tidbits about just how long you'll be spending on the twisted planet of Pandora.

Game development generates jobs and explores interactive technologies, which a U.K. trade group believes should be more than enough reason for the British government to provide funding and tax breaks at a universal level. TIGA, an interests group comprised of independent games developers and in-house, publisher-owned developers, has its sights set on better funding and relationships with universities following recent reports on assistance given to game makers.

Handsome Star Captain of Tomorrow, Nathan Fillion, came down to the MTV offices to talk "Halo 3: ODST" the other day. We got a lot of great stuff out of him, but we'll start with the basics: How he got the gig to be a voice actor in "Halo 3" (which would later propel him into his starring role in "Halo 3: ODST").
In case you're skeptical about his level of enthusiasm, trust me, it's legit. This dude loves "Halo."

Square Enix's Yoichi Wada isn't the only one in the game industry looking ahead to a potential Wii 2. Though Goichi Suda was quoted as saying his follow-up to "No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle" would be on a platform other than the Wii, he has now clarified that statement, explaining that he wants Suda51's next game to be on the next Nintendo system.

In the world of video games, two years is an eternity. A game can go from pre-production to retail in that span of time. Consoles can rise and fall. Just think: two years ago, “Halo 3” came out this week. There was no such thing as a DSi. The most recent PS3 exclusive was “Heavenly Sword”. A different world, I tell you!
It’s been two and a half years since Sega signed on to make games of Marvel’s superhero movies. Since then, “Iron Man” turned out to be Sega’s single greatest non-Sonic success in years and “The Incredible Hulk” wasn’t that incredible. Just recently, “Iron Man 2” started building hype. The other games Sega announced it would be making, however, haven’t been mentioned since. That is, until notes from an August meeting between Sega and SCEA were leaked.

Xbox Live should have a new kind of gift for you this holiday season. The upcoming Arcade release "Joy Ride," developed by Big Park, will let you download and play it for free, betting on a new business model of micro-transactions after you're in the door. The Avatar-power racing MMO looks a bit like a giant outdoor Hot Wheels track, and will expand based on user participation.

Last week saw a thoroughly amusing mod for "Half-Life 2" which replaced all of the game's sound effects with a dude's voice performing the game's sound effects. Michael Winslow would be proud.
This week we have an adorable mod for "Left 4 Dead" featuring those precocious UK aliens, the Teletubbies.

If you're in the market for an Xbox 360 Elite, now may be the best time to pick one up. Major Nelson announced on his blog today that, starting today, until October 5th, if you buy an Elite console, you'll get a rebate slip for $50 bucks back. Effectively that brings the price of an Elite to $250, the same price as a Pro! Pretty great deal, but it does lack the nerd cred of, say, this outlandish "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" special edition Xbox 360.

Pearl Jam's "Backspacer" album dropped this week, but as a pleasant addition for gamers, the album is also available, in its entirety, in "Rock Band." It's the second full album that Pearl Jam has brought to "Rock Band," with "Ten" being the first.

GameStop's pre-order exclusives have certainly encouraged people to throw down money for games early. For example, early birds will get to play as Sgt. Johnson in Firefight Mode (pictured above). And that's pretty good. But Toys R Us has them beat.
