Nintendo tied up its "Metroid Prime" franchise nicely with their recent "Trilogy" boxed set, and the company currently has its sights set on "Metroid: Other M," a 2D-ish return to classic "Metroid" gameplay. That project left the "Prime" games' developers at Retro behind to partner with Tecmo. Certain word choices by developers in a recent interview, however, seem to to indicate that future "Prime" games may still be possible down the pipe.

The German localization team for Activision's "Wolfenstein" revamp may have missed a swastika or two while preparing the game for release. Germany has extremely strict rules forbidding the Nazi emblem's use in games, and any presence at all appears to have been enough to prompt the game's voluntary removal by Activision.

In speaking with Nathan Fillion (who happens to be a giant nerd, by the way) about his starring role in "Halo 3: ODST," the topic of "Halo: Reach" came up. Guess what? He's seen it. The details are sadly non-existent, but he has gotten an early look at the game when he was in Bungie's offices, which he talks about above.

I've never thought of the Xbox 360 as an adorable console, but somehow rabbitrampage of Etsy fame (known for the equally adorable PSX iPhone case) has managed to transform Microsoft's box into a case fit for kawaii.

It's $35 bucks, which isn't too steep considering it's hand made, but you're basically out of luck for the time being, as the Etsy store is completely sold out of 'em. Links on Gizmodo will do that to ya...

Sidenote: The Virtual Boy is just screaming out for a similar treatment.

The "Metal Gear" series comes to Costa Rica and the PSP in Kojima Productions upcoming release "Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker," and the newly revealed characters sport names that should feel right at home in Central America -- or a Stanley Kubrick movie, depending on who you look at. UPDATE: Microsoft has stepped up to clear the air on this rumor. Joystiq reports that the company issued a simple, matter-of-fact statement on the matter: "Microsoft has no plans to purchase Electronic Arts." Move along... nothing to see here.

Electronic Arts saw a huge jump on Wall Street today, going up 8.9% to 20.17 a share. The boost comes from rumors that Microsoft is interested in purchasing the game publishing juggernaut. It seems, though, that the rumors are just that, with industry analysts coming out of the woodwork to deny the possibility of the deal.

A new Xbox 360 System Update appeared today, but changes it makes in the interests of Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm integration probably won't turn any heads. In fact, downloaders may find themselves wondering exactly what their getting out of the installation. Never fear, though, because Major Nelson posted to his blog in the wee small hours of the morning to assure everyone that there are no new features contained in the update -- just preparations for things to come.

Given that it has, alongside “Grand Theft Auto”, literally defined the popular gaming landscape of the past decade, “Halo” has some weird identity issues. Rockstar North has never had any questions about what “GTA” is, but Microsoft and Bungie seem to go back and forth on whether “Halo” is a deeply story-driven epic or just a perfectly balanced shooter with memorable aesthetics.

I've written a bit about playing games on Easy, and open-world games seem to be the most palpable for ratcheting things down, since the fun of the game is usually in the exploration and story-telling, not so much the dodging of bullets. "Red Faction: Guerrilla" and "Prototype," for example, were two games that I found more enjoyable on easier settings. It's too early to tell whether "The Saboteur" will be included in that crowd, but Tom French, the game's lead designer at Pandemic, definitely has that option for people:
