You may have noticed a rather buff gentleman wielding an axe on the red carpet during the VMAs last night. What you might not have known was that it was Jack Black, dressed up as the hero of "Brutal Legend," roadie Eddie Riggs. To complete the look, Jack had a muscle suit, a head banger's wig and a "Brutal Legend" t-shirt. And, oh yes, the aforementioned axe. Don't worry, it was plastic.
It does beg the question, which was stranger: Jack Black as Eddie Riggs or Lady Gaga's bejeweled neck brace?

In "Solar," you play as the sun. I could go on, I could describe the rest of the game, I could talk about all kinds of things, but maybe I should just stop there. You play as the sun! The sun! The freakin' SUN, man! Dig it!

Used game sales are a lucrative market for some retailers, including Toys"R"Us, which recently announced its entry into the trade-in sector. It's a gray area for game-makers though, who often get wary about low-cost games competing with fresh, unopened copies on shelves without putting money directly in their pockets. An exec for the chain Game Crazy has a different take on the system, though, and believes that video game companies may be reaping benefits from used game sales.

LucasArts' latest creation for Xbox Live and PC premiered for the world in living color last night, and the title for the new game is "Lucidity." The puzzle-and-platforms game appears to require lots of environment and object manipulation as its basic focus of gameplay, taking a nod from modern beauties like "Braid" and harkening back to its story-intensive predecessors like "Monkey Island."
"Lucidity" will be available later this month, according to Scrawl. Footage of the game, which debuted on Gametrailers TV shows the game's main character Sophie using multicolor blocks to navigate her 2D space and climb over holes.

No one would argue that Nintendo isn't the reigning king of adorable. Unwilling to be complacent in their reign, a large-ish box came my way today, containing an armful of "Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story" swag.

As a youngling I festooned my bedroom with Magic Eye pictures that I bought at the Galleria Mall. I was the only one in my family that could see the secret image ("It's a scooner!") and that made me feel cool. Apparently the worthless skill never goes away, but technology has created a Magic Eye for the 21st century: Magic Eye Tetris.
