Taking a cue from the earlier days of "Street Fighter," Capcom will be updating "Street Fighter IV" in spring 2010, much sooner than anyone expected. The update, dubbed "Super Street Fighter IV" (natch) will include 8 new characters, new online features and a less-than-full price tag.
There aren't a whole lot of concrete details on "Super Street Fighter IV" just yet, but two of the eight new characters have been unveiled. Juri (pictured) is a brand new addition to the "Street Fighter" team. She uses Tae Kwon Do and is more of a light and agile fighter. On the complete flip side is T. Hawk, the bruiser first introduced in "Super Street Fighter II," who is making a comeback. He's big, beefy and heavy on the grapples and Native American iconography.
New online features are also being added to the mix, with equally scarce details there. A lobby system, like the near-perfect one in "Super Street Fighter II HD Remix," would be a great addition. Unfortunately these new features, as well as the new characters, will make "Super Street Fighter IV" incompatible with its predecessor for online play. Which means the older game will probably become a ghost town come the spring.
As for the price, no announcements have been set, apart from Capcom saying that it won't be a full price game. To me that sounds like $50, since that's technically not full price, but also high enough to turn a profit and make some dough off the slavering "Street Fighter" masses. $40 seems more reasonable, but that price would come as a pretty big shock.
To make the product a bit easier to swallow, Capcom is also saying that there will be some sort of "bonus" will be given to owners of "Street Fighter IV." Free downloadable costumes would be my guess.
