'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' Xbox Bundle And Multiplayer Details Revealed

Posted 9/16/09 3:16 am EST by Brian Warmoth in News, PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Xbox Live's Major Nelson teamed up with Infinity Ward to unload a bundle of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" reveals Wednesday night in Los Angeles, including hardware and multiplayer gameplay news for November's new chapter in the massively successful franchise. Infinity Ward's lead multiplayer designer Todd Alderman and community manager Robert Bowling explained the new additions, including call signs and added kill streak functionality, while Nelson (whose real name is Larry Hryb) broke down the details on the Xbox 360 "Modern Warfare 2" Special Edition Console, which became available for pre-sale that night for $399.

"It’s got a 250GB hard drive. It comes with two wireless controllers. It includes the 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' obviously – a copy of the game," Hryb announced at the event. Though the package is currently only available for pre-order in the U.S., he added that Europeans would be able to place orders as well by the end of this week.

I'll have more specific details up soon from Alderman and a one-on-one interview with Bowling soon, but the the big details to be aware of right now about multiplayer gameplay in "Modern Warfare 2" are the game's expanded list of kill streaks, which will be customizable, a new status badge called the call sign, which will reward players for an array of random specialized accomplishments, and create-a-class functionality that will allow players to fine tune their arsenal according to secondary sidearms and weapon attachments.

So do you wish you were out here? Well stay tuned, and I'll go into a few of these features further with commentary straight from the team members who helped shape "Modern Warfare 2."

What do you think of the 'Modern Warfare 2' 360 bundle? Will you put down the $399 for it? Did any of the new multiplayer features catch your eye? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
