ESPN is reporting that Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the two cover athletes on "Madden NFL 10," injured a ligament in his left knee during yesterday's game and will be out for 3 to 6 weeks.
And, as with most years, talk of the Madden Curse is stirring up once again. While Brett Farve's contract shenanigans might count as curse-worthy (especially since he was "retired" when 09's box art was revealed), a better example would be in 2008, when cover athlete Vince Young injured himself in the first game and ended up being replaced as the starting QB for the Titans.
But, of course, the years have seen far more examples of cover athletes getting injured. While many point to the Madden Curse, it's more an NFL Curse, as football players are very prone to injury. After all, it's a full-contact sport where the goal is to bring someone to the ground by any means necessarily. But hey, superstition is fun, right?
