"Final Fantasy XIII" officially graduated from a "winter release" tag to a shelf date of December 17, and scattered other details about the premier Square Enix franchise's latest sequel have come to light as well. Though the release date only applies to Japan, and U.S. gamers will have to wait until Spring 2010 to see it in their PS3s and 360s, Square Enix also announced that the Japan launch would also include a PS3 Slim Bundle.
The game will retail for 9,240 yen ($100) in Japan, according to Reuters. Though it will be a PS3 exclusive in Japan, the U.S. and Europe will get versions for both Sony's system and the Xbox 360.
In addition to confirming the PS3 Slim bundle, Kotaku revealed the new look for beverage company Suntory's "Final Fantasy XIII" Elixir soft drinks, which will be available for the Japanese market this winter. The drinks are somewhat of a tradition for new FF games.
Square Enix's trailer for "Final Fantasy XIII" sports some lively cinematic cuts. Sony and Microsoft will have high hopes for the gameplay as well so that the title can take some console market share away from Nintendo this Christmas. Sony, in particular, should have a lot riding on it, "FFXIII" has been one of the most anticipated PS3 titles since the console's debut.
