As we all know, jet packs are a very viable conveyances during wartime. They can, for example, send you up in the air, giving you the permanent high ground! You may not have known that the real life Nazis experimented with the packs during World War 2 by strapping two jets to the back of a hapless pilot. Oh those Nazis, what won't they do? You can learn all about the early jet packs here (complete with super ridiculous pictures that I'm very tempted to steal but won't).

After a prolonged media blackout, Rockstar Games is surprisingly close to releasing "Beaterator," its PSP-based beat-making game. Featuring the work of Timbaland, the game aims to capture the creation of studio-ready beats for a variety of different musical styles.
In today's press release, Timbaland seemed enthusiastic about the title: "'Beaterator' is like taking my music studio and turning it into a suite of tools anyone can use. We can’t wait to hear the beats people make and share with the world."

Games are getting more and more complex. Every passing day brings with it more gigantic press releases in my inbox about the depth and intricacy of a video game. Why can't we go back to simpler times, when a game could be described thusly: "Use the tank to shoot the dot and get points"?
Well I'm making it happen, whether the video game likes it or not. Oh yes, I'm bringing it: The One Sentence Challenge. Here are the rules:
A publisher or developer must describe their game in one grammatically correct sentence. No run-ons or particularly aggressive semi-colons allowed. I'll admit that this isn't very compelling for, say, "Madden," but wouldn't you like to know how someone might summarize the enormity of, say, "World of WarCraft" or "Fallout 3"? Here are some of the suggestions I got from you guys. I'll be reaching out to publishers and developers, and hopefully we'll get some good answers.

"Bayonetta" is really weird. Don't get me wrong, it looks awesome, and plays like an even more polished "Devil May Cry," but over the course of, say, a minute of playing the game, you probably going to think you took some bad acid. Boss fights against monsters which closely resemble the wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man, for example.

"Alpha Protocol" is an RPG that, despite being in development for several years now, is still a bit of a dark horse title. It's a new IP and, if you just look at screenshots from the game, it's easy to confuse with a lot of the other modern-day action games out there. Seeing it played it is a different story, as it looks like a more active (hell, more fun) version of the original "Mass Effect," from the dynamic conversations to the character skills to the branching storyline.

We all know Peter Jackson is a gamer, no surprise there. What may come as a shock is what sorta games he enjoys. For example, he's been playing a lot of "Call of Duty: World at War" with his son, specifically the new zombie-themed maps that just got released. And you thought he just liked "Halo."

Harmonix has already stated that the entire "Abbey Road" album will be released as downloadable content for "The Beatles: Rock Band" sometime after the game hits on September 9th. Apparently that's only the beginning.

In this week's "Game Plan," I make a rather edgy choice for what should get number one and pretty much everyone will probably think I'm stupid because of it. But too bad, it's my show, I'll do what I want.

Now that the PS3 Slim is basically definitely pretty much happening (with an expected announcement at GamesCom), it makes me wonder just how many people would toss their old PS3 Fat for the newer, svelter model.
So I put it to you: What would the Slim need to have for you to make the switch? Personally I hate the original PS3 design, but I don't know if that's quite enough to justify such an outlandish purchase. But what about you guys?

In a rare move, Chair Entertainment was able to send out download codes for "Shadow Complex" more than a week before the game releases to the world on XBLA. So, of course, I've been playing a lot of it. My review is embargoed until next week, but I thought you guys might be interested to learn just how quickly the game can be finished.
