Friday's here once again. Things are really coming into their own with regards to gaming news, as we had a truckload of new info this week regarding the lead-up to BlizzCon, next week's "Batman" game and the next "Fable. Oh, and giant blue cats making out in "Avatar." Here were the week's top 5 stories:

The penultimate class reveal for "Diablo 3" was unveiled at BllizzCon 2009 today. The Monk will join the already announced Barbarian, Witch Doctor and Wizard. In case you can't guess, he's the guy on the right.

"Spy Chameleon" takes the basic elements of the old school 2-D stealth game---careful analog stick work and pattern recognition---and tosses away the always-pretty-silly stories prevalent in the genre. In place of narrative complexity, "Spy Chameleon" offers appealing gameplay tweaks (a more than fair exchange, I’d say!), particularly the nifty, color-disguise system. The emphasis on color creates opportunities for some truly charming, if simple, visuals (despite the cruddiest-looking doors in video game history), and the button-jamming adds a surprising amount of fun to the normally slow-paced genre.

UPDATE: Posted Blizzard's official "World of WarCraft: Cataclysm" FAQ at the end of the post, since their sites have had some trouble staying up. Also trailer added!
ORIGINAL STORY At BlizzCon 2009, Blizzard has officially announced the next expansion pack for "World of WarCraft." "World of WarCraft: Cataclysm" has been rumored for the past couple of weeks, and it turns out the rumors were legit.

In today's somewhat delayed Lunchtime Twitter Poll we're taking a look back at classic PC final boss fights. My personal favorite, pictured above and agreed upon by many, featured a battle against Hitler in a mech suit. I guess it wasn't so much the battle as it was the aspect of him melting once you killed him...followed by an instant replay of said melting.
The folks over at GoG.com have been kind enough to offer five codes for downloading free classic PC games on their site, which I will direct message to the following winners. Thanks to everyone one who participated, and keep an eye out on the LTP as we'll continue to do giveaways from time to time.

I'll lead with what matters most: If the year ended tomorrow, "Batman: Arkham Asylum" would be my easy Game of the Year pick. It's nothing short of superb and should be played by fans of the franchise as well as fans of video games in general.
The Basics
"Batman: Arkham Asylum" starts off with Batman hauling the Joker back to the asylum for a long-term lockdown. Things quickly go awry, though, as the Joker escapes and manages to take control of the entire facility, opening up the cells and giving the inmates the run of the place. It's up to Batman to bring order to Arkham.
The gameplay jumps across several genres. At times it's a straight-up brawler, at others it's a stealth adventure game. In a lot of ways it feels like a mix between "Splinter Cell" and "Metroid," with a heavy emphasis on exploration.

You would not believe the press event that Nintendo held in New York City last night. In celebration of the launch of "Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box," Nintendo booked a room at the swanky Carlyle Hotel for a post-work old-fashioned high tea. It's fitting for a gentleman like Professor Layton, but this event was ladies only, so I sent Lindsay Soll, of MTV's Hollywood Crush blog, to experience it for herself.

Due to licensing issues certain "Tatsunoko" characters needed to be dropped for the U.S. release, but Capcom has promised to compensate for the missing characters with new ones. While it has already been confirmed that Phoenix Wright is out, Capcom has a thirty-year history of characters they can pull from to fill the holes. Here are just a few suggestions of characters that should make their way into "Tatsunoko vs. Capcom."

I didn't really understand the draw of "DJ Hero" until I played it. While I liked the new style of music, I couldn't help but feel burned out on rhythm games which have, lets face it, gotten a little stale in the last year or two.
But, in playing "DJ Hero" I found a renewed interest. And it's not 'cause of the music, or the presentation (even though both of those factors are quite solid). It's, very simply, the gameplay. Even though it's a rhythm game, it feels "new," and that's what grabbed me.

Unfortunately not everyone is lucky enough to make the trip to Anaheim for BlizzCon 2009. Sure, you can buy one of the "digital passes," but that won't bring playable versions of "StarCraft 2" or "Diablo 3" into your home. Or will it? No, it won't. Sorry.
