Just a quick heads up, I'll be guest hosting the second episode of Kotaku Talk Radio today, starting at 1pm EST (all you other funny timezones should be able to figure out what that means for you). My predecessor at MTV, Stephen Totilo, is out at QuakeCon, so I'm taking up the reins this week. And no this doesn't mean that I'm taking his job at Kotaku. (OR DOES IT!?!) (No, it doesn't.)
You can listen to the show live right here, and feel free to call in and ask pertinent questions about gaming and/or Crecente's flowing locks.
If you miss the live show, it'll be on iTunes tomorrow, so you can treasure it for all eternity.

UPDATE: Apparently "Wolf RPG" has an alterna-Hitler? How strange!
"Wolfenstein RPG" has been pretty much done for several months now (at least according to John Carmack, who would know), but EA has been sitting on it for fear that it would get confused with "Wolf 3D," the port of the classic FPS. But the reins have been lifted a mere week before Activision drops the next-gen "Wolfenstein." Take that!

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the MTV News interns and Adam Murphy, Production Assistant to the stars, the box has been opened!
For the record, it involved tapping against the side of a table a little bit, which seems counter to the whole "don't use brute force" credo these things generally have. But whatever! Here's a video of Adam showing off how it's done:

The Rhythm Game Wars continue their bloody march to the holiday season. The latest volley of "Guitar Hero" vs. "Rock Band"? The above deal, which you can check out here.

UPDATE: I called the number in the message, and Professor Layton basically told me what to do (you can call too, if you want to take part!). And it still won't open. On the verge of smashing.
UPDATE 2: I'm pretty sure it's jammed. You can see a bit of plastic sticking out of the right side of the box in the above pic. I'm gonna fiddle with it for the rest of the day before hitting it with a hammer and hoping whatever's inside isn't too fragile.
UPDATE 3: The MTV News interns are on the case!
Original Story: Nintendo sent along a copy of the new DS puzzle sequel, "Professor Layton And The Diabolical Box." Also in the package was a box. Specifically a puzzle box. Oh, and a note challenging me to open it. You can see the note above (I've just blurred out the contact info of the Nintendo rep).
How to get this thing open is a totally mystery to me. I could post a video of me struggling for a half hour, but somehow I don't think that's really the best use of your time.
I'm pretty sure something's in the box, though, so if sudden inspiration strikes me (or I smash it in frustration) I'll let you know.

As you probably already know, today's Xbox 360 dashboard update adds the Avatar Marketplace, where you'll be able to purchase clothing and accessories for your avatar. Jaded gamers may scoff, but I have a distinct feeling that a lot of you are going to see all the fancy new threads in your friends lists and break down, dropping a dollar or two on a nifty new hat or giant ear swab. Admit it, you're weak!
Booting up your Xbox 360 today will result in an automatically downloaded update. Don't be alarmed, it's normal and it happens to a lot of people.
The download is the much-anticipated (though not quite as epic as expected) dashboard update, which includes a variety of usability improvements to Xbox Live. Here are some of the highlights:

If you had a crappy PC in the late '90s, you probably played "Snood." The freeware "Puzzle Bobble" clone ran on just about everything and was, well, strangely addictive.
We haven't heard much from "Snood" since then, save for a small DS release, but apparently it's making a comeback. "Snood Redood" (yes that's the actual, awesome title) is coming to iPhone sometime "soon." It'll have new graphics, as well as the old school, kinda lame graphics that you remember from the original. In the above screenshot, it's old on the left, new on the right.

Rumors abound today as WoW.com is reporting that they have multiple sources claiming that the next "World of WarCraft" expansion will be called "Cataclysm." The expansion is also said to introduce two new playable races, the Worgen (pictured above, for the Alliance) and the Goblins (for the Horde).

“Madden” is intimidating. No two ways about it. It has a great reputation, for sure. High Metacritic scores year in and year out alongside annual mutli-platinum sales in the US alone, no other game franchise in the world commands the same level of respect over so many different releases. Not even “Tetris”. But it also has a reputation for being unforgiving, with complex controls, demanding AI, convoluted game modes, and an increasingly exclusive multiplayer community. It’s also seen by the gaming community as a series slow to change.
