'Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom' Character Replacements: 10 We'd Like To See

Posted 8/20/09 3:45 pm EST by Jason Cipriano in Features, Wii

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

Due to licensing issues certain "Tatsunoko" characters needed to be dropped for the U.S. release, but Capcom has promised to compensate for the missing characters with new ones. While it has already been confirmed that Phoenix Wright is out, Capcom has a thirty-year history of characters they can pull from to fill the holes. Here are just a few suggestions of characters that should make their way into "Tatsunoko vs. Capcom."

Dr. Albert W. Wily
(Mega Man Series)
Dr. Wily

This mad scientist gets no respect. Including him in one of his trademark ships, upgraded to one-on-one battle, and you’ve got a true contender.

Special Move: Wily’s Castle – the good doctor has an assortment of his Robot Masters at his disposal (Cut Man, Metal Man, Air Man, etc.) and can call on them for an assist.

Chip and Dale
(Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers)
Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers

The two high-pitched chipmunks team up ala the “Smash Bros.” version of the Ice Climbers, and tag team their opponents into submission; preferably by throwing apples at them.

Special Move: The Hackwrench - super-sexy mouse Gadget [Ed note: uh...] pops in for the assist with an assortment of tech toys that she’s created from household objects.

Arthur
(Ghosts N Goblins)
Arthur

Have you seen what Arthur has had to fight in his games? He’s taken down everything from ghosts to goblins. Going up against the cast of Tatsunoko characters will be nothing for this valiant knight

Special Move: The Illusion of Satan – If you beat Arthur once, the match ends up being a fake, and you have to beat him again a second time.

Guy
(Final Fight)
Guy

For some reason Capcom consistently overlooks Guy (maybe it’s the generic name), but they’ve never included him in any of their fighting games. Well… now’s the time.

Special Move: Salmonella – after eating a random piece of chicken off the ground Guy powers up for a 15 hit combo.

Radd Spencer
(Bionic Commando)
Bionic Commando

Hey Capcom, if you want to prove you’re truly behind bringing back “Bionic Commando” lets see you include the original Radd Spencer in “Tvs.C.” He’s got the bionic arm – trust me, he’s ready to go. He just needs to work on that whole “jumping” thing.

Special Move: The Animated Gif – Radd ends each match that he wins with his opponent’s head exploding in slow motion over the course of a four frame animation.

The Noid
(Yo! Noid)
The Noid

It’d be great to see this advert-game from 1990 come back to bite Capcom on the backside. The catchphrase was “Avoid the Noid,” but I think this is one time where we can make an exception.

Special Move: 30 Minutes or Less – The Noid makes Domino’s pizzas rain from the sky – but it can only be done after the first 30 seconds of the match.

Shun Aiba
(Kabu Trader Shun)
Shun Aiba

What? You’ve never heard of Shun Aiba? He only starred in the best stock market based-Japan-only DS game ever released. Jeez. Have you ever even played video games?

Special Move: Black Friday – Shun causes the stock market to collapse, forcing the Tatsunoko Production company to go out of business. All Tatsunoko characters must forfeit.

Shantae
(Shantae)
Shantae

If there’s one thing that “Tatsunoko vs. Capcom” is missing, it’s a half-genie with magic hair. Shantae needs to fill that hole.

Special Move: Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Bolder - Shantae uses her magical dances to turn into her other forms (monkey, elephant, spider, harpy) at will.

Frank West
(Dead Rising)
Frank West

After escaping the mall in Willamette, Colorado, Frank is whisked away to a fighting tournament where he must take down the characters of Tatsunoko with everyday objects he finds in a mall.

Special Move: The Journalist – Frank blinds stuns his opponents with his camera flash, and then starts beating them with a toy sword. To extend the stun – Frank can quick change into other costumes to confuse his enemies.

Amaterasu
(Okami)
Amaterasu

If you think dogs can’t fight against humans and humanoid type things, Amaterasu is going to prove you wrong. And to top things off, he’s going to do it with style.

Special Move: The Great Idea/Poor Execution - The unskippable opening sequence of “Okami” starts to scroll over the screen forcing Amaterasu’s opponent to either fall asleep, or forfeit out of submission.

Honorable Mentions:
Cosmi ("Under the Skin")
JoJo ("JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure")
William Agustus Grey ("Dark Void")
Ryu ("Breath of Fire")
Darkwing Duck ("Darkwing Duck")
Gene ("God Hand")
Toki Tori ("Toki Tori")
Garcian Smith ("Killer7")
Any of the "Power Stone" Characters
