Friend and Contributor of Multiplayer, Locke Webster, is working on a commercial shoot out in LA this week and thought you guys might get a kick out of this fake video game magazine done up by the prop geniuses of Hollywood.

Yes, the video game doldrums of July are in fully swing, but that doesn't mean we can't look ahead to the future. For example, August has some solid games coming out! Take "Wolfenstein," a game which I was initially pretty "meh" about, until I actually played it and couldn't help but relate it to "Call of Duty" with super powers (truly a lofty compliment).
Activision is turning up the marketing machine as Wolfenstein marches to release next month, and because of that we have a new video, featuring a behind-the-scenes look at the game. Keep an eye out for Nazis melting into the ether, which is something that simply doesn't get old.

Marvel mastermind Stan Lee has appeared in just about every Marvel movie since "Spider-Man." He's pretty easy to spot: He's the old guy who gives some throw-away line about responsibility and all the nerds in the audience nod at their friends and smile, knowing that Stan Lee has placed his cameo stamp of approval on this project.

"Scribblenauts," the strange, word-centric DS game that became the portable darling of E3 2009, has an official release date for North America.
When will you be seeing it? How does September 15th strike your fancy?
Gotta say, I'm a little bummed that this won't make release before the end of the summer. The brilliant concept (type one of thousands of nouns to create in-game items to solve puzzles) is going to be up against a lot of established IPs once September rolls around. I just hope it doesn't get lost in the mix.

Cheap beer and Bon Jovi has never been enough to keep bar-goers happy. In the past, a billiards table, shuffle board, and a pinball machine would usually do the trick. But now technology has taken over, and every bar should be equipped with these three games.
“Golden Tee Live”
Although “Golden Tee” has appeared in bars since 1989, it has kept up with technology and become an interactive drunken golf experience. In the past you could only slam the spinning ball against other people in the bar, and if no one else wanted to play, it could be a lonely night in the corner. Now you can join tournaments that connect to bars around the country. Another perk is that you can actually make money for placing in these contests. That’s right, if you are good enough at drunken virtual golfing, you can make enough money to cover your bar tab.

Yesterday I stopped by Gameloft's offices here in NYC to check out "GangStar: West Coast Hustle." The official name for the game is actually "Gang$tar: West Coast Hustle," but I'll spare you the innovative use of punctuation.
The game is, in every way, a "GTA" knock-off. The camera is positioned directly behind the main character, a Mexican gang member who is working his way up the criminal chain in Los Angeles. To accomplish this you'll have to complete missions around the city, stealing cars, killing rival gangs (and civilians) and earning cash to upgrade your arsenal. Pistols, assault rifles and rocket launchers are par for the course in this one.

Games aren't all about killing! Sometimes they're about merely maiming and incapacitating! Today we pay homage to the weapons that'll leave your foe breathing but reasonably uncomfortable. My favorite? The "Zelda" boomerang. Yes, I'm aware it's technically able to kill puny monsters but usually it just stuns enemies, leaving them dizzy and violated! You guys had a bunch of good responses today!

Chalking this one up as what will probably be the most shocking news of the week, Sam Raimi, director of "Spider-Man," "Evil Dead" and, most recently, "Drag Me To Hell," will be helming a new project based on "World of WarCraft."
Variety is reporting that the movie, currently titled "WarCraft," will be live-action and will be produced by Charles Roven, of "The Dark Knight" fame.

Gamasutra is reporting off the NPD numbers that were just released, and they've narrowed down which games have sold the best in the first six months of 2009. Keep in mind that games released earlier in the year would have an advantage here, as they've had more time to brew.
On the PS3 it's pretty predictable:
1. "Killzone 2"
2. "Resident Evil 5"
3. "Street Fighter 4"
4. "UFC 2009 Undisputed" (wow!)
5. "MLB 09: The Show"

UPDATE: Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, of Microsoft, has confirmed that the update should be up for press and selected community members before the end of the week, so no need to start burning bridges or anything. Also no reason to suspect it won't hit its planned August 11th wide release.
Microsoft was originally intending to push the new Xbox 360 update to press yesterday afternoon, but apparently something went wrong. Emails were sent out to press last night saying that there will be a delay and that we'd be hearing from Microsoft as to when we'd be seeing the update on our ends.
It's about a day after the original launch time and still no word from Microsoft as to when the update will be dropping. The big question: Will this affect the original launch plans? And what about the community members that were supposed to get access this Wednesday? Certainly it explains why Microsoft is holding on to the widespread release until August 11th.
I have a word in with Microsoft about the delay, so I'll let you know the moment I hear back.
