Freeverse is the first 3rd party developer that will be compatible with ngmoco's Plus+ system on the iPhone. In a lot of ways, Plus+ is basically Xbox Live for the iPhone, letting you create a user profile and unlock achievements across any iPhone games that support the system. It also supports a universal friends list for profile comparisons and multiplayer options.
Right out of the gate with games at the iPhone's launch, Freeverse has released popular titles like "Wingnuts Moto Chaser" and the "Big Bang" series of puzzle and board games. "Warpgate," an upcoming space-trading game, is the first of their games that'll support Plus+, though, with "Flick Fishing" following soon afterwards.
The president of Freeverse had this to say about the Plus+ service: "Freeverse fans are always eager to engage meaningfully with their social groups and share the games they love, so integrating Plus+ into our games was a natural choice for us."
Having using Plus+ pretty extensively, I'd be thrilled if more publishers got on the bandwagon. Until Apple is able to create their own gaming platform on the iPhone (or until they work out a deal with ngmoco to buy out theirs), it's a great stop-gap option. After all, there's something strangely rewarding about earning meaningless points.
