Before there was "World of Warcraft," the MMO hotness was "City of Heroes," an innovative title that allowed players to suit up in spandex and protect the citizens of Paragon City. But as fun as it was to defeat evildoers, gamers were growing tired of fighting for justice. So in 2005, creator NCSoft released "City of Villains," more of a companion release than an expansion pack. However, it wasn't enough and many of those (including me) drifted off to "World of Warcraft," a wide open world where leveling up wasn't the challenge it was in COH.
But now NCSoft is coming back swinging, announcing their first major release since "City of Villains." Entitled "Going Rogue," the company says "GR" will transport players to the mirror universe of Praetoria, where superhero icon Statesman is now the evil leader Tyrant.
In a departure from the either-you're-good-or-you're-not playability of "City of Heroes" and "City of Villains," "Going Rogue" will allow gamers to blur the line between good and evil. Based on behaviors and missions chosen, characters can choose to become a force for good, or a destructive power, in what the developer is calling a "moral compass."
More details are yet to come -- including a release date -- so stay tuned to Multiplayer for continued coverage. And stay tuned for a forthcoming announcement regarding the new Multiplayer editor!
