Activision, the giant publisher of the upcoming "DJ Hero" game, claims that the backers of competing game "Scratch: The Ultimate DJ" have sued them only to distract attention from financial troubles.

Activision Blizzard dismissed the lawsuit filed against it by "Scratch: The Ultimate DJ" publisher Genius Products and turntable maker Numark as "disingenuous," according to a statement released by the publisher today.
"These allegations are nothing more than an attempt by Genius to place blame for the game's delay, as well as to divert attention from the cash flow, liquidity and revenue challenges Genius detailed in its March 30, 2009, SEC filing," the company noted in a statement. "By their own admission in October 2008, the game had fallen behind in production, which was well before Activision had any involvement with Genius, Numark or California 7 Studios regarding the game."
The publisher behind hits like "Guitar Hero," "Call of Duty" and "World of Warcraft" admitted to buying 7 Studios, the developers of "Scratch" on April 6 to bolster its development efforts, but denies trying to block the development of "Scratch."
From Activision's press release: "7 Studios had continued to develop Scratch: The Ultimate DJ and Activision did not interfere with or delay their efforts to complete the game. In fact, Activision provided the fledgling developer with much needed financing during these difficult economic times."

Activision claims that this lawsuit will have no affect on the development of the publisher's "DJ Hero" game.
