Change is good, even if it's thrust upon you when the timing doesn't feel right. In two weeks, a little more than a year after Stephen plucked me from 1UP to start writing for MTV Multiplayer, I will be leaving here and moving on to…well, I don't know yet.
***
If Twitter didn't make it obvious, at the end of the month, I no longer have a job here at MTV Multiplayer. In two weeks, my time with Stephen and Tracey is up -- high-five, economy! -- and I'll have to find myself a new home.
Right now, I don't know where that home is. It's not the most exciting time to be looking for something new, considering the 40+ that were only recently laid off from my previous workplace, 1UP, and most of them haven't found a new gig.
It will work out, though, and I'm forever grateful for the year I've spent with MTV, learning from Stephen and Tracey. My months here have allowed me to learn and grow as a writer in ways I can never repay, and given me the very experience that will allow me to successfully move on from here.
Over the next two weeks, I'll still be busting my butt to produce the same level of material I've done for the past year. I'm not going anywhere just yet.
Stephen, I consider you the first "editor" I've ever really had. The games industry doesn't have enough people with high standards, but you always kept raising yours with me. Sometimes that was frustrating, but I was always better for it. When I didn't reach the bar, I learned from it. Thank you.
Tracey, there are few writers better in the business and one day the Internet will finally get around to appreciating that. Also, now that I'm leaving, I don't have to worry about writing the week in review articles. That's all yours!
Readers, thank you for, well, reading. Without you guys, I wouldn't ever have a job. If you want to keep tabs on me, my Twitter feed isn't going anywhere.
