Change is coming to THQ, according to comments by CEO Brian Farrell during an investor call about the publisher's year-end financial results; in addition to cutting hundreds of employees and reducing its studio count, Farrell said THQ would be reducing the number of hardcore games it creates.

"Our goal is to make money," repeated THQ CEO Brian Farrell several times during an investors call about the publisher's year-end financial results this afternoon.
THQ is reducing its employee headcount by 600, consolidating the number of studios it owns and making changes to game development. One notable switch will be a reduction in the number of "core gamer" titles the publisher producers.
"We have a lot of expertise in that particular category and some terrific development talent organized around that," said Farrell. "Our view is [to] focus. We were doing too many of those titles, lost our focus [by] spreading our investment across too many titles is more the issue than being that business because when you get that business right you can make a lot of money."
The company's upcoming "core gamer" releases include "Red Faction: Guerrilla" and "Darksiders: Wrath of War."
If you could only have THQ focus on one or two hardcore games per year, where you like to see them pool their efforts?
