Fan Mod Combines 'Resident Evil' And 'Left 4 Dead'

Posted 1/14/09 10:00 am EST by Patrick Klepek in resident evil, User-Generated Content, Zombies

It was inevitable that someone would take the powerful modding tools available for Valve's zombie shooter "Left 4 Dead," look at the powerful living-dead scenarios created by Capcom for the "Resident Evil" series and combine the two.

"Resident Evil" may have kicked off the zombie craze for many, but "Left 4 Dead" has done a phenomenal job of keeping the dream of blowing away the undead alive and well. It seems only natural, then, that someone would want to make "Left 4 Dead" and "Resident Evil" join forces.

That's possible through the power of modding. Users have been busy hacking away at "Left 4 Dead" and building their own new levels and scenarios. One of these is a work-in-progress campaign called "Bioh4zard 2," which seems to borrow heavily from fan-favorite "Resident Evil 2."

L4DMods.com describes the plot of "Bioh4zard 2":

The campaign places the four survivors on the abandoned [sic] streets of Racoon City after a truck crashes into their car. You head on foot to the police station in hope of rescue. Upon entering the station you receive [sic] help from an injured cop who points you in the direction of the sewers to escape the infested city, however the 4 survivors soon end up discovering the reason behind the infection when they come across a top -secret high tech research facility owned by the 'Umbrella' Corporation.

The fan modification is still early -- most of the "Resident Evil"-specific textures have yet to be implemented -- but there is one famous early scene from "Resident Evil 2," where players meet a confrontational gun shop owner, which already matches up.
