Apple declared iPhone the "best portable device for playing games" in September, touting several impressive games like "Need For Speed: Undercover." At their MacWorld keynote this morning, however, the company made no mention of iPhone gaming. This is Apple's last MacWorld appearance.

Apple launched the iPhone application store in June, with games quickly becoming the most dominant (and prolific) application on the platform. There are currently thousands of games available for the device, many completely free.
Even traditional console games like "Super Monkey Ball" have adapted quickly, thanks to its advanced accelerometer, and seen spectacular sales.
And while 2009 is being hyped as a year where iPhone games will be remembered more for ambitious iPhone-specific games like "Rolando" and not dozens of "Tetris" knock-offs, Apple made no mention of this during their MacWorld keynote. Gaming was given no limelight.
iPhone as a whole was mostly kept to the sidelines at the keynote. Apple introduced support for iTunes music purchases over AT&T's 3G Network and a Keynote Remote application that allows iPhone users to view their computer-designed slideshows over the device.
However, Apple traditionally holds a number of press conferences to update their product lineup year-round. Chances are we'll hear more soon enough.
