I played six PSP games for fun in 2008 and finished three of them.
As I did last year, I've compiled a list of the games that I played for fun in 2008. One list per major gaming platform.
(Check out the rest of my 2008 Gaming Playlists for other platforms, updated daily until New Year's.)
Today's entry is all about the PSP, a powerful system with disturbingly few games released for it in 2008.
What did I play? And which three games did I finish?
Take a look below:
My 2008 PSP Playlist
(Games I completed are italicized)
1) Ape Quest - This was the only game I downloaded to my PSP this year. It's a barely-publicized, barely-reviewed mini-game-driven role-playing game released in chapters. It's an interesting curiosity, but that's about it.
2) Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core - There still has not been a "Final Fantasy"-branded game that I can bring myself to finish. I played several hours of this game over several weeks but was turned off by the characters as well as the themes of obedience and insubordination that dominated the plot. I felt like I was being told how to be a better employee or something.
3) God of War: Chains of Olympus - Quality game, but one that failed, unlike its PS2 predecessors, to leave enough of an imprint on me that I can remember scenes from it. Most games don't pull that off, but this series had been great enough doing that on the PS2.
4) Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice - I was fanatical about the original "Pursuit Force" game and can't knock any sequel that starts with a shootout at a wedding. Combining Super Mario jumping with high-speed car chases is still a win in my book, but this game wasn't as good as its predecessor, which had more interesting scenarios.
5) R-Type Command
6) Secret Agent Clank - Warning, Sony: "Ratchet" franchise overload is setting in. Credit to the developers at High Impact, though, for figuring out a new way to do stealth. But, of course we should be given points every time we sneak past an enemy undetected! If we get points for killing, we should get points for avoidance. More stealth games need that.
