If you're a fan of rock musician Les Claypool's contributions to the soundtrack for eclectic Wii platformer "Mushroom Men," you're in luck.
I went through my notebook and discovered some news I neglected to report.
Claypool will be adding lyrics to the "Mushroom Men" music and releasing it as part of an album he's producing for sometime in 2009.
"I'm writing some lyrics for stuff and [creating] arrangements and making them into actual songs," he told me during an October phone interview. "They're all pieces, you know; they're not just little ambient sections. I actually wrote them with the intention of later using them for foundations for songs."
I asked Claypool if this approach to songwriting varied from how he normally approaches his music, a claim he denied.
"Writing a song is always different," he explained. "Sometime it's just lyrics and you have a melody because of the lyrics and that with rhythm and what not. Or a lot of times it's music. You have bits and pieces of music and that inspires a certain feel or vibe that you write lyrics to or perhaps there's lyrics I have kicking around that might fit well with whatever music foundation I have. For me, it was writing the music inspired by these characters and now I will put lyrics to those pieces. Some of them I've done and some of them I haven't done yet."
So if you don't have a Wii, you can still check out Claypool's music for "Mushroom Men" next year. If we hear more on this project, we'll let you know.
