No one's ever satisfied, right?
During a call that was meant to trumpet the successful recent launch of the New Xbox Experience and certainly had nothing (really!) to do with the impending launch of PlayStation Home, I asked Xbox director of product management Aaron Greenberg about two complaints I keep hearing about the Xbox 360's Netflix service.
People want more movies on them, and they'd like to update their Netflix queue on the 360, instead of only on their computer.
To the first point, Greenberg said: "They've done a great job growing that library. A year ago they had about 5000 movies and TV shows on there. This is a new space that hadn't existed… I expect that will continue to grow. They added Starz and the Sony content close to when we launched and are close to 15,000 [pieces of content]." Some big movies, he pointed out, will still debut as paid rentals elsewhere on the Xbox Live Marketplace, owing to the business interests of the content owners.
And what of the inability to manipulate one's Netflix queue via the Xbox 360? Hasn't Microsoft heard the requests for that? "We've heard that feedback, absolutely," Greenberg said. "What the Netflix guys will tell you that queue management is meant to be on the PC, where you can search a lot of content and see reviews. On the Xbox 360, the idea was this was supposed to be a viewing experience. That's the way we designed it… We've heard the feedback ands I think the team will look at what the options."
