What We're NOT Playing (Sorry 'Quantum of Solace' and 'Call of Duty... 4'?)

Posted 11/5/08 4:30 pm EST by Tracey John in What We're Not Playing

Last week, we here at MTV Multiplayer chose not to play three of the season's biggest games.

This time, Stephen and I picked a licensed movie title and a game from last year.

And as for Patrick, well, since he's off today, I'm going to guess he'd totally agree with us.

Anyway, read on to see why we chose these games...

Tracey's Not Playing...

"Quantum of Solace" (on any platform)

Why she's skipping out on the game for one of the year's biggest movies: I'm not dismissing it because it's a licensed movie game (I have played some). It's rather simple -- I haven't seen the movie yet! The film will be released in U.S. theaters on November 14th. What I'm wondering is... why do movie games come out so far in advance of the actual film it's based on? I'd prefer seeing the movie first before I start playing the game. If you play licensed movie games, do you wait to see the film first? I still have "The Incredible Hulk" in shrink wrap as I have yet to see the movie, which is lost somewhere in my Netflix queue.

Stephen's Not Playing...

"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" (on any platform)

Why he's bothering to tell you that he's not playing a 2007 game: The next "Call of Duty" comes out in one week. I may be busy playing other games, but I'll at least consider playing it. I'm not sure I could say that if I was still hooked on "Modern Warfare," which many of my friends are. What's the risk of creating annual sequels to hit multi-player franchises? The danger that people won't want to convert to the sequel. At least that's not an issue for me. Bring it on, "World At War"!
