‘Little Big Planet’ 24-Hour Timelapse Video

Over a 24-hour period last weekend, students in New York’s Parsons The New School For Design competed to make levels in upcoming PlayStation 3 customizable side-scroller “Little Big Planet.” Other outlets interviewed these students. We tried (emphasis on tried) something different: a timelapse shot of 24 hours of creation.

Our camera was trained on the work of a student group called Team Awesome. Our camera shot half a second of footage every 15 seconds, for 24 hours. That gave us almost an hour of footage. When we sped it up, we ran into a problem. At that rate, the footage became incomprehensible. So, instead of showing you all 24 hours of Team Awesome’s labor, we’re presenting sped-up chunks: four moments of inspired creation, each sped up, each representing a few minutes of fevered experimentation. At the end of the above clip, check out the playthrough of Team Awesome’s entire level.

Team Awesome’s level co-won Most Innovative creation of the contest. We hope you like what we’ve assembled.
