We talk a lot about "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" on this blog, sometimes forgetting there are people that actually like to create…real music.
There are plenty of those people right here in the video games industry, too. On Tuesday, for example, I took in the debut performance of The Gold Medalists at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco.
Comprised of former 1UP news editor turned Foundation 9 business development analyst Jane Pinckard (on the keyboard) and Electronic Arts publicist Pete Ngyuen (on guitar and vocals) and two others outside of the games industry, The Gold Medalists played to a nearly packed show earlier this week.
It felt like a bonafide industry event, actually. There was a designer from "Dead Space" chatting up his soon-to-be-released horror game, a producer from Capcom, publicists from at least a dozen different publishers and journalists galore. Video games people packed the place.
You should check The Gold Medalists next time they play. I'll probably be there. In the meantime, scope some of their songs at their MySpace page.
