Actress Maggie Q Disputes ‘Max Payne’ Star’s Dismissal Of Video Games

Actress and model Maggie Q doesn’t agree with actor Mark Wahlberg’s stance on games and movies.

The “Need For Speed: Undercover” star and “Live Free Or Die Hard” actress told me last week that Hollywood has a ways to go in the perception that game movies aren’t worth paying attention to.

“I think there’s just too much that we don’t know about this world [games] that it’s hard to say ‘Oh, you’re doing that?’” she told me last week. “Because, guess what, this world, in its own right — in any right — is huge.”

I brought this up specifically because of Wahlberg, who said he would not have read the script for “Max Payne” if he’d known is was based on a game.

Speaking with Gametrailers TV at Comic-Con last month, Wahlberg relayed his thought process in coming on board the “Max Payne” project…

“They knew I wouldn’t have even read if they told me it was based on a video game. But I read the script and thought ‘wow, this is a great script and a great character.’ And then after seeing the game, I realized this is the most elaborate story that I’ve ever seen from a video game. Really, there’s a lot going on. It’s a very intricate story. “

Maggie Q, on the other hand, knew what she was getting into. I wondered what the reaction was from her Hollywood friends when they found out she was working on a video game project. “There’s no adverse reaction to what I’m doing,” she said. “Everybody’s kind of cool and in to it and happy for me.”

“There’s no adverse reaction to what I’m doing”

“It’s honestly hard to judge a world that you don’t know,” she continued. “I think for Hollywood and for the acting world…I was sort of like ‘Oh my gosh, what’s this going to mean to me if I’m going to do a video game?’ I sort of thought about it for a while. Everyone I’ve mentioned it to, honestly — actors, directors, producers, people I’ve worked with…I’ve just gotten back from a movie last week, and all the guys I worked with were like “Where you going?” And I told them I was doing this game and they were like ‘Coooool!’”

You can scope out some of “Need For Speed: Undercover” (sans Maggie Q) over here. Oh, and in case you were wondering, would Maggie Q be up for a big-screen video game adventure?

“Absolutely, if it was the right one,” she said. “For sure.”

Do you have any suggestions for her, readers?
