Summer MTV Games intern Ren-An Lo has a problem he'd like to share with you. Take it away, Ren-An...
My PS2 is dead.
A few weeks ago, a friend tripped over the controller wire in the middle of the night, causing the console to crash from five feet in the air to the hardwood floor.
It survived, but every time I play a game the system freezes up constantly; it's a frustrating experience.
With my PS2 done, this brought me to realization that I need a new platform -- with wireless controllers. I have an Xbox as well, but I've never gotten around to buying a new system because my roommate has a Wii and a PS3, and my neighbor had a 360 during the semester. However, now that I have more free time on my hands and I'm away from college, I'm finally ready ready to spend a little money on a new gaming system.
But the question is which system should I get? The contenders I have in mind are either the 40GB PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360. And I'm not even considering the Wii.
Why not the Wii, you ask? Well, first of all, I'm an extreme "FIFA" addict, and I just cannot enjoy it on the Wii. I don't feel confident with the controls because I'm more comfortable with one controller when playing "FIFA." Although the GameCube controller will be an alternative for "FIFA 09," I'm not too fond of it either. I just don't think I'd easily adapt like I would to the PS3 or Xbox 360.
And since "FIFA" is available for both platforms, there are other factors to consider when choosing between the Xbox 360 and PS3. I also enjoy "Project Gotham Racing," which is an Xbox-exclusive franchise. However, I most likely am going to play "FIFA" online frequently, and Xbox Live costs money, while PSN does not.
The DVD-playing capabilities could be taken into consideration, but I'm not an avid DVD consumer, so Blu-ray doesn't matter to me.
What really is the most important factor is the cost; I want my expenditure to be as low as possible.
So I'm stuck between the two consoles. At the moment I'm slightly more inclined to get the PS3 because of the free online play.
With all this said, I'm currently in a whirlpool of confusion as to which console to purchase.
So fellow readers, which video game console do you think is most suitable for me? And am I really missing out by snubbing the Wii? Let me know what you think.
