The games industry has wisely chosen to avoid releasing anything too substantial in the week following “Metal Gear Solid 4.” You know it’s an off week when you’re struggling to pick what you’re not playing from a list completely made up of things you’ll likely never play.
But I digress. In this week’s edition of “WWNP,” Jason Cipriano and I declare that “Secret Agent Clank,” “Sea Life Safari” and “Deadliest Catch: Alaskian Waters” won’t be taking up our playtime this week.
PatrickKlepek: You want a stealth “Ratchet” game?
JasonCipriano: He’s a pretty great character.
JasonCipriano: But, I’m not a huge fan of stealth games.
JasonCipriano: But, I haven’t played it at all.
JasonCipriano: It might work for the PSP.
PatrickKlepek: Why would stealth be inherently better on PSP?
JasonCipriano: Backed myself into a corner again … Traditionally they haven’t, (like that one “Splinter Cell” game that was released) but maybe as a tiny robot it might work better.
JasonCipriano: I’m fairly certain I’m defending the game because I like the character so much.
PatrickKlepek: Maybe you should speak to a psychologist. Clank isn’t real, you know.
JasonCipriano: I think I wish he was
To find out why Jason might be crazy, keep reading.
PatrickKlepek: Well, Stephen has abandoned us again this week. Though it feels like his ghost still haunts us.
JasonCipriano: Through email and the occasional phone call. Just because he is on the other side of the country (your side of the country) doesn’t mean that he can’t keep a watchful eye over us.
PatrickKlepek: Thankfully, I’ve managed to stay hidden.
JasonCipriano: LIKE SNAKE!
JasonCipriano: See what I did there?
PatrickKlepek: L…o…l?
JasonCipriano: Indeed
PatrickKlepek: Of course, the problem being that I’m not very good at staying hidden in “Metal Gear Solid 4.”
JasonCipriano: But I guess that implies that you are playing it.
PatrickKlepek: You are correct, sir. Solid Snake’s latest adventure will absolutely not be my choice for WWNP. I’ve been playing quite a bit of it.
JasonCipriano: Good for you … so the next logical question is what aren’t you playing?
PatrickKlepek: The latest “Ratchet & Clank,” actually. “Secret Agent Clank” on PSP.

JasonCipriano: Got something against cute little helper robots that wear bowties?
PatrickKlepek: I wish it was as vindictive as that. Mostly, I haven’t yet played “Tools of Destruction,” and I don’t see a reason to start a portable effort before that.
JasonCipriano: One reason might be because you can play it outside of your home? It’s portable you know?
PatrickKlepek: I work from home. As such, I don’t tend to play many portable games, certainly ones that are just replications of the console experience.
PatrickKlepek: Who in the right mind would play “Secret Agent Clank” over “Tools of Destruction,” given the choice?
JasonCipriano: … There’s joke to be made about playing games on the john here … but I’m not sure if I’m going to make it…
PatrickKlepek: It’s probably for the best.
JasonCipriano: You know you were thinking it too.
JasonCipriano: Anywho… perhaps it’s time to move on.
JasonCipriano: I don’t know, there’s something appealing about being able to play a whole game as Clank.
JasonCipriano: He’s always been the highlight of that series for me.
JasonCipriano: I like his humor.
JasonCipriano: His mechanics.
PatrickKlepek: You want a stealth “Ratchet” game?

PatrickKlepek: Maybe you should speak to a psychologist. Clank isn’t real, you know.
JasonCipriano: I think I wish he was. HOW AWESOME WOULD THAT BE! A little wisecracking helper robot following you around. Strapped to your back. You know, helping you with things.
PatrickKlepek: You must be really excited for “Wall-E,” then
JasonCipriano: Not as cute.
PatrickKlepek: Pff!
JasonCipriano: But, since it’s Pixar I have no doubt that it will be more than enjoyable.
PatrickKlepek: But we’re getting off track again.
PatrickKlepek: You might like “Secret Agent Clank.” Good for you.
PatrickKlepek: But what aren’t you playing?
JasonCipriano: I’m passing on a duo of wildlife inspired games this week - Xbox Live Arcade’s “Sea Life Safari” and the Xbox 360’s “Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm”
PatrickKlepek: I’ve heard the TV show is pretty good. Never seen it though.
JasonCipriano: I’m with you on that.
JasonCipriano: I don’t know. I just have no desire to want to go down either of those roads
JasonCipriano: I hope that “Sea Life Safari” has more of a gaming element to it than “Endless Ocean,” but I just lack the interest to head “under the sea”
PatrickKlepek: I don’t know anything about “Sea Life Safari.”
JasonCipriano: From Xbox.com: Embark on a journey the whole family can enjoy in Sea Life Safari™! Make a splash as an underwater photographer tasked with capturing the most incredible pictures of wild sea animals. Entice your subjects into playful poses, provoke photo-worthy reactions, and reel in those picture-perfect scores!
PatrickKlepek: I just read that it’s on-rails, too.
PatrickKlepek: Sort of like “Star Fox” meets “The Little Mermaid.”
JasonCipriano: Amazing how you can blend greatness and crap and the result always ends up being more crap than great.
PatrickKlepek: I’d rather have a remake of “Pokemon Snap.”

JasonCipriano: There are more “Pokemon” in the universe now.
JasonCipriano: That could be interesting.
JasonCipriano: I realize that I haven’t made much of a case for my choices, but, there’s really not anything drawing me into them
JasonCipriano: I fear that my judgment this week has been skewed by the fact that two games I have been waiting quite some time for came out — “Space Invaders Extreme” and “Arkanoid DS”
PatrickKlepek: Oh, I really want to play those, too.
PatrickKlepek: Are you playing “Space Invaders” on PSP or DS? I can’t decide.
PatrickKlepek: I need to pick; I’ll be traveling next week.
JasonCipriano: DS. I bought the paddle off eBay about 2 months ago, and it’s been sitting on my desk. I really hope it is still compatible.
JasonCipriano: I’m hoping to grab a copy after work and confirm that for myself.
PatrickKlepek: I just might do the same. At least we can agree on what we will be playing.
JasonCipriano: It’s about time.
JasonCipriano: And I think we should end this on that sole agreement.
PatrickKlepek: Agreed.
JasonCipriano: Or something like that.
