For many shoppers, the first time they learn about a game is on the retail shelf.
So in our weekly feature, we look at recently released games and judge them solely by their box art.
After all, you know what they say about first impressions...
"We Ski" (Wii)
What the Box Tells Us: Why isn't it "Wii Ski"? I'm guessing it's a Nintendo thing. Anyway, saying "We Ski" really fast sounds like "whiskey," which leads me to believe that this game is best played under the influence of alcohol (for those 21 and up, of course). We'll see how good one's balance is after that...
Love It or Leave It: Love it.
"Deca Sports" (Wii)
What the Box Tells Us: Fitting 10 sports onto the cover is an impressive feat. Too bad every avatar on here looks about as enthused as a funeral attendee.
Love It or Leave It: Leave it.
"Drone Tactics" (DS)
What the Box Tells Us: It's Transformers meets bugs! I can't decide if I want to squash them with my shoe or have them transform in and out of disguise.
Love It or Leave It: Love it.
"The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, DS)
What the Box Tells Us: Do I detect a tad bit of phallic imagery in this cover art? And I get that the box art designers are trying to portray the dichotomy between good and evil, but the light on Prince Caspian's sword reflects right into my retinas. I shouldn't have to squint when I'm looking at a game box -- I do that enough looking at mini-maps.
Love It or Leave It: Leave it.
"Ford Racing: Off Road" (PC)
What the Box Tells Us: What was Ford's motto? "The best never rest"? Well it seems that someone took a breather when designing this cover because they forgot to include the driver to go with that disembodied hand on the steering wheel. (Unless it's supposed to be Thing from "The Addams Family.")
Love It or Leave It: Leave it.
