What We’re NOT Playing - Volume 30 (Sorry ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Let’s Pilates!’ And… ‘GTA IV’?)

notplayipilates.jpgTwo little known games called “GTA IV” and “Mario Kart Wii” came out this week.

Seriously though… We’d be fools to not be playing them, right?

But one of us hasn’t even gotten Niko off the boat yet in “GTA IV.”

Why? He says there’s been too much hype:

JasonCipriano: I’ve been playing “Mario Kart” pretty steadily, and I’m sure I’ll get into “GTA” by the weekend… I just haven’t gotten to it yet
TraceyJohn: Did you intentionally choose “Mario Kart” over “GTA”? People might say you’re crazy for even waiting ’til the weekend
JasonCipriano: I’m okay waiting until the weekend. My girlfriend won’t be around and I’ll be able to dig in
JasonCipriano: I’m a little in “GTA” overload anyways
JasonCipriano: I’ve been tired of hearing about it for a couple weeks now
JasonCipriano: We get it. It’s a big game… and it’s out. Can we all please stop talking about it, and maybe just … ya know … play it, and keep to ourselves
JasonCipriano: There has to be other things to talk about
TraceyJohn: Hmmm… Like what we’re NOT playing this week!

Are you suffering from “GTA” overload, too? We know some other games that are, and we discuss why we’re not playing them. Read on…

TraceyJohn: Hey Cip, it’s that time again. Remind me: Did any big games come out this week?
TraceyJohn: I’m trying to think…. hmmm
JasonCipriano: No, its been a slow month.
JasonCipriano: I mean, pretty much nothing has come out this month at all
TraceyJohn: Enough beating around the bush. So no “GTA IV” and “Mario Kart Wii” for you?
mariokartwii1.jpgJasonCipriano: I’ve been playing “Mario Kart” pretty steadily, and I’m sure I’ll get into “GTA” by the weekend… I just haven’t gotten to it yet
JasonCipriano: How about yourself?
TraceyJohn: I’m playing “GTA” for sure. Also, you have my copy of “Mario Kart.” So that’s that.
TraceyJohn: Did you intentionally choose “Mario Kart” over “GTA”? People might say you’re crazy for even waiting ’til the weekend
JasonCipriano: Yeah. I believe I always had the intention of playing “Mario Kart”
JasonCipriano: I’m okay waiting until the weekend. My girlfriend won’t be around and I’ll be able to dig in
JasonCipriano: I’m a little in “GTA” overload anyways
TraceyJohn: How so?
JasonCipriano: I’ve been tired of hearing about it for a couple weeks now
JasonCipriano: We get it. It’s a big game… and it’s out. Can we all please stop talking about it, and maybe just … ya know … play it, and keep to ourselves
JasonCipriano: There has to be other things to talk about
TraceyJohn: Hmmm… Like what we’re NOT playing this week!
JasonCipriano: Exactly. Kudos on the segue
JasonCipriano: So, what’s on your list this week?
ironman.jpg TraceyJohn: For me, I think “Iron Man” takes a hit
TraceyJohn: I even skipped out on an early screening of the movie to play “GTA”
TraceyJohn: Though I do intend on taking a break to see it this weekend
TraceyJohn: But the game, aside from not arriving in the mail yet, may not get touched for a while
JasonCipriano: Oh no … I can see why you might have a multitude of reasons to pass on it — but what are yours?
TraceyJohn: Well there’s the movie. I’d rather see it first then play it, as I do with all licensed games (if I play them)
JasonCipriano: That’s reasonable
JasonCipriano: You don’t want anything spoiled
TraceyJohn: Definitely, and I like to compare them
TraceyJohn: What else are you not playing right now?
JasonCipriano: I may have to agree with you on “Iron Man” - mostly.
JasonCipriano: The predicted the box office would take a hit from “GTA 4,” and they may be right
JasonCipriano: but I really think game sales are going to take a bigger hit.
TraceyJohn: “Iron Man” game sales you mean. Yeah, for sure
JasonCipriano:
However, I will say that the DS version of “Iron Man” has quite a bit of potenital
JasonCipriano: it’s essentially a 3D version of “Robotron” using the stylus as one of the analogs.
TraceyJohn: Oh cool.
JasonCipriano: I had a chance to play it last week, and, being a fan of “Robotron” (I can’t help my nerdy retro love) I felt that it might just have to make its way into my DS.
JasonCipriano: Either way, the movie looks like it’s going to be awesome.
gtaiv2.jpg JasonCipriano: So aside from “Mario Kart” and “GTA IV” there’s not a whole lot else hitting stores this week.
JasonCipriano: However, there really is one standout title that I’m positive I won’t go near with a 10-foot pole.
JasonCipriano: Knowing my dislike for most physical activities that aren’t dodgeball, I’m sure you can make an educated guess what game that might be…
TraceyJohn:Let’s Pilates!
TraceyJohn: or “Let’s Yoga!“?
JasonCipriano: Well you’re right … it’s “Let’s Pilates!” … not so much the Yoga
TraceyJohn: I think you could stand to do a few Pilates…
TraceyJohn: …no offense
JasonCipriano: I at least know and understand what yoga is. I honestly have no clue what Pilates is
JasonCipriano: so why I am I going to pick up a video game (a DS game no less) to do some kinda of workout that I just don’t understand.
JasonCipriano: Maybe if it was “Let’s Tae Bo” I’d check it out … but I’m passing on the Pilates
TraceyJohn: Right. I don’t see anyone buying a DS for “Pilates.” But maybe as a supplement to their game library
TraceyJohn: a supplement to “Brain Age,” most likely
TraceyJohn: Ok, I’ve gotta run. So for now you’re skipping “GTA IV” until the weekend, and “Let’s Pilates!”
TraceyJohn: For now, I’m passing on “Iron Man” the game (but not the movie) and “Mario Kart Wii” since you have my copy.
JasonCipriano: It’s almost the weekend
TraceyJohn: True, but still.
TraceyJohn: Ok, see ya later!
