In March, I faced a daunting dilemma.
I wondered whether or not I should lend my early copy of “Super Smash Bros. Brawl” to a nine year-old for his birthday party.
Now I face another tough choice: Should I go to an early screening of the Iron Man movie tonight or should I stay home and play “GTA IV”?
Last month, an analyst claimed that the release of “GTA IV” on April 29 may affect the ticket sales for the Iron Man movie, which is out in theaters on May 2. At first I scoffed at the idea, but now I’m not so sure.
For some, it might be a no-brainer: “GTA IV” is the most anticipated game release of the year. Duh. But I’ve heard so much hype and read so many previews, impressions, reviews and whathaveyou, that maybe I should take a step back and see the blockbuster flick first. After all, the window for getting “GTA IV” early and playing it before everyone else has passed now. But there’s still time to see the Iron Man movie before wide release and brag about it… if it doesn’t suck.
Also, the movie is about two hours long, and obviously “GTA IV” is much longer than that. It’s possible I could try to do both. But is Iron Man worth the two hours playtime I’ll miss from “GTA IV”?
Dear readers, make up my mind for me and tell me what I should do by 2pm EST. My social life and nerd cred rests in your comments…
[UPDATE 4/29, 11:04am - Two things just came for me in the mail. “GTA IV” and the two passes to see Iron Man tonight. Why are they taunting me?]
[UPDATE 4/29, 3:05pm - My decision… Thanks to everyone who commented. After careful consideration, I decided to go home and play “GTA IV.” As much as I’d love to see Iron Man, I’d be thinking about the game the whole time anyway. In fact, I am going to fake being sick right now so I can go home and play. But shhh! Don’t tell Totilo.]

‘GTA IV.’ Easy.
Iron Man is just another super-hero movie, and they usually get lame halfway through. It will come out on cable someday. That’s good enough.

Iron Man! Easy! You have GTA, so it’s always going to be there. There’s no rush to get to the end. Why not take a break and go to an *advanced screening* of a movie that looks pretty awesome?
April 29th, 2008 at 10:17 am
I’ll be watching Iron Man. It’ll give the losers out there time to catch up to me on GTA 4.
April 29th, 2008 at 10:43 am
I’d go with Iron Man too. GTA IV will be there when you get home. Its good to take breaks and get out into the world outside.
April 29th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Iron man wins everytime.
Who cares if you are the first to do anything? Just don’t be the last!
I will be a watching it the day it comes out. Thats only cause im a Marvel freak.
Oh, and Steven, how can you acclaim that super hero films get lame half way through? They are usually boring in the middle!
Who really cares?
Tracey John. Just do whatever you want. It’s not even a dilema you face, but a pathetic school boy tantrum.
Anyone second that?

@Phoenix
I like super-hero movies until the super-villains show up. I prefer my super-heroes to be saving regular people than fighting other people in costumes. That stuff only looks cool in comics.

@Phoenix,
I think it’s more of a pathetic school girl tantrum, thank you very much.

Meh, Just go too the movie dude. There is 1/100 chance of any one having That chance of seeing the movie before the others. GTA IV looks like a sweet game but you’ll have plenty of nighters too get all the satisfaction you need from it.

2 hours isn’t much compared to the multiple 6 to 10 hour play sessions of GTA IV. So go enjoy Iron Man and revel in the fact that you are one of the few people seeing it first. Just make sure you go early if it’s a screening like I think it is. Those things usually get packed really fast.
April 29th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Go see Iron Man because after it is done you can play GTA IV. Plus why would you not want to see Iron Man. Do you not like Tony Stark?
April 29th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Your decision is Iron Man. Plain and simple. Fatty, buttery theater popcorn. That is all you need to make your decision. Now run and be free from this torment! Spread your wings and fly away my little fairy friend and be free!

GTA IV. Since you are coming over to my house with it. You don’t have extra tix to the Iron Man screening do you? No? Thought so. Come over.

Iron man! I would rather go see that because GTA would be there when I get back. Even though Iron man is just a movie I mean $~%# a real Iron man movie and not cartoon such as GTA but I mean that would be really cool to see the movie since it just came out and I mean they did try to hard to make GTA realistic and I don’t really like that…
April 29th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
I’ll be watching Iron man since all the copies of GTA were sold out before I could get my hands on one!
How do people expect GTA sales to out-gross a big Hollywood picture in it’s first week when they can’t even provide enough stock for the first 4 hours of trading?
See the movie, if you shared my disapointment today you won’t get the chance to play GTA for another three weeks yet.
April 29th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Drop off GTA IV at your sister’s and go see Iron Man.
April 29th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
GTA all the way! Iron Man will be ruined by you just wanting to play GTA the whole time, so you might as well just accept your fate and get with the car stealin’.
April 29th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
I think that all of you people who would go watch iron man should reconsider it is really bad….GTA IV is way better and should play it all night long… I just got it and already beat it..it is so easy.
April 29th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
I’d see Iron Man. I’m going to a media screening tonight in Hollywood, then right back to GTAIV to tell my friends online how the movie kicked some ass.
April 29th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Go see Iron Man. It might get you in the mood for some creative mayhem when you play GTA IV later that night.
April 30th, 2008 at 7:33 am
lol pulling a sicky? Great minds think alike… Oh and fug iron man… With bells on…. GTA pwns.
April 30th, 2008 at 7:43 am
What !!!??? Iron Man clearly won here… and yet you sold out to GTA 4 - clearly you’re someone who can’t take advice. Which is probably why you’re playing GTA - have fun !
April 30th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
I would totally rather play “GTA4″ then watch Orion Man any day of the week!!!!!!
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:09 am
GTA IV! Why not buy the DVD when it comes out? Cheaper and you get to keep a copy!
