360/PS3 Dual-Console Owners Most Annoyed About Red Ring, But Favoring Microsoft (Unofficial MP poll)

Xbox 360 and PS3Yesterday I asked readers of this site who own both a PlayStation 3 and an Xbox 360 what makes them play one console versus the other.

The response was terrific. It was insightful, entertaining, and — brace yourselves — tilted toward the 360.

I read through the posts and have tallied the count. I’ve also collected the most common explanations and some provocative quotes.

  • Did you know there’s someone out there who plays their 360 more than their PS3 because they prefer custom soundtracks?
  • Did you know that there’s a trend among multi-console gamers who buy PS3 versions of multi-platform games because they are afraid of their 360 Red Ringing?

Of the 54 people who identified themselves as owning both consoles, 27 people said they’re playing their Xbox 360 more, 22 are leaning to the PlayStation 3 and five say their time is spent evenly.

And now for the fun stuff I pulled out of your responses…

Multiplayer’s Informal PS3-360 Dual-Console Owners’ Poll

All of the following comments and stats come from 54 Multiplayer commenters who say they own a PS3 and a 360 (in a couple of cases, two 360s). Notice how many items are split evenly between the two systems.

  • Number of people who say Achievements compel them to spend more time on their 360 — 7
  • Number of people who expect to be hooked by Home — 2
  • Number of people who say they lean toward their 360 because most of their gamer friends are there — 9

Multiplayer reader Danh: The Xbox community is very social, like hanging out with friends on the weekend. The PS3 friend’s list is like the guy in high school I only talk to when I need to borrow a pencil.

  • Number of people who say that the Red Ring of Death or other 360 hardware issues shifted their time to PS3 — 14
  • Number of people who say that PS3 hardware issues shifted their time to the 360 — 2

Multiplayer reader Jim: I buy all multiplats on PS3, partly due to controller preference and partly because I got the Red Ring of Death twice in 1 year, so it’s a pointless risk getting the 360 versions.

  • Number of people who expressed a preference for the 360 controller — 4
  • Number of people who expressed a preference for the PS3 controller — 5

Multiplayer reader Royce: It’s the controller. Seriously. I just want to pick up “Rainbow Six Vegas 2” for 360 because I really enjoy the feel of having the triggers for a shooter, and I despise the feel of the shoulder buttons-masquerading-as-triggers on the PS3 controller. When I went to buy “Call of Duty 4,” I chose it for the PC (ha! a third option!) because after playing a rental version on 360, I just wanted that slightly more precise aiming ability that the mouse offers. Then when it comes to other game types, like a “Grand Theft Auto IV,” I think the PS3 offers the best controller in terms of feel and ease of use.

  • Number of people who say the noisiness of the 360’s disc drive is a factor — 4
  • Number of people who say the 360’s online service is better enough to make a difference — 6
  • Number of people who say the PS3’s online service is better enough to make a difference — 6

Multiplayer reader beautifulraven: Custom soundtracks. After I beat a game it’s the only reason I come back. I get to relax and listen to my music. I have played through most 360 games multiple times. I can even stand playing bad games like “CoD 4” (not a bad game necessarily but not my type of game) Once the PS3 supports them I will come back to some of my ps3 games. Actually it’s the only reason I would buy the Xbox version over the PS3.

  • Number of people who say the 360 gets more play because it has better games — 5
  • Number of people who say the PS3 gets more play because it has better games — 6
  • Number of people who say their PS3 is primarily their movie player — 5

Multiplayer reader Bill: PS3 gets used mostly as a movie player, which it is very good at, although it will not work with my Harmony remote. I do imagine - and hope, that Sony will finally concentrate on games now that its virtues as the “next” disc format are all but guaranteed. I really expected everybody would drift away from the Xbox when we got the other consoles - Especially the Wii, but it just has not happened. Everyone wants to use the 360, The Wii only gets used when company comes over. We had to get another 360 so we all get a chance to use it in different rooms.

  • Number of people who say the fact that they owned a 360 first is a factor — 1
  • Number of people who say their gaming time is spent more on their 360 than their PS3: 27
  • Number of people who say their gaming time is spent more on their PS3 than their 360: 22
  • Number of people who say their gaming time is spent evenly between their PS3 and 360: 5

There are plenty more great comments and ideas in the original thread. So check it out.

And thanks again, Multiplayer readers, for proving that there’s ways to talk about multiple game consoles without engaging in a system war.

this article is pointless, grow up “Stephen Totilo” or read a book.

  2. Stephen Totilo says:

    Omen,

That comment is almost as awesome as your last one, which stated, and I quote:

“360′S GAMES ARE SHORT CUZZ THEY USE DVD,PS3′S GAMES HAS MORE MISSIONS AND MORE THINGS ON THE GAMES;NOT EMPTY OR SMALL LIKE 360′S GAMES HAS CUZ IT HAS NO blu-RAY.
IT DESAPOINT ME WHEN I BUY A GAMES ON THE 360 AND THE GAMES ARE SOO fu^&G SHORT AND OVER THAT THE 360 OVERHEATS WHEN I PLAY COD4.”

    Recommend any good books?

  3. tatsujin says:

Xbox 360 does have alot of games, and most are nice. but to compare both systems is just f—ing pointless right now. I’ll never own a Microsoft hardware system till they know how to make one. Microsoft creates systems based on “present” while Sony makes their systems for the “future”. An even bigger difference is Microsoft leans more on Software (Windows Operating Systems, Windows 7 is in production FYI) and Sony is focused more on hardwares. Sony > Microsoft in terms of Hardware, I found that the hardway and Microsoft > Sony+All other software publishing companies in terms of Software quality, stability, etc.

And on your topic, honestly your just basing that off of one forum? … Why don’t you come to www.forum.desync.com and see how many people are playing PS3 and XBox and Wii as well? Desync is not a PS3 thread, its an actual general thread about “anything” and “everything” including whatever we want to talk about. No admin there, haha. :P

  4. shaboigan says:

    LOL omen got pwned, HARD!

  5. jeff says:

concluding by using 54 people…. are u joking?

  6. Stephen Totilo says:

    Jeff,

I don’t want to mislead anyone. I added (Unofficial MP poll) to the headline. Better? Plenty of people had their say and offered some really interesting ideas about a topic I don’t see a lot of people discussing. Hope you find the discussion compelling.

    -Stephen

  7. well says:

XBOX360 don’t need that LUBE GAY s— you kids are talking about, as long as i can DL my hd movies from xbox live im good to go, by the way this whole bluray thingy is to expensive, so until the price is down to dvd price @*@% BLU RAY

  8. JohnnyBodkin says:

I have both. Own 11 games for my 360, and own 1 for my PS3, and that was because my it wouldnt work on my friends PS3. 360 is the better console no matter how you slice it. I play it almost 100% and use the PS3 for blu ray video playback.

  9. Scott says:

I dont own a PS3 because its too expensive…period. I dont care about a Blue Ray player….and the games on it dont really interest me. And I personally find Xbox Live better for what I want than PSN. I love my 360. But I don’t look down on PS3 owners….its a great machine, and I am sure I will own one at some point. (Probably when God of War 3 comes out, or if FF7 is ever properly remade.)

  10. Kevin says:

Number of people who care about this article: 1 (the author)
Number of people who see this as ridiculous: 10 (all of the people who read it)

The 360 has been out for a full year before the competition. Whether readers admit it or not, if they were frivolous enough to buy 2 expensive game systems, then they surely bought lots of Xbox games in year one. Meaning, they are going to play it more and probably like the games they have bought more since the PS3 is only barely 1 year old and is just now getting the good second year games.

Great article…..now go write about why the sky is blue or why the trashman only comes on wednesdays.

  11. mmmmmmmm says:

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. You have spent a load of time producing stats from absolute rubbish. How many of those people actually supplied any hard evidence that they own both consoles? Without that the entire thing is utterly worthless.

There are a lot of silly Xbox 360 owners who say they own PS3’s but dont play them because it doenst have any games. Why the hell would you buy a console that doesnt have any games I ask you? The answer is that they didnt. They are lying about owning it.

  12. Duuude says:

I own a 360 and will buy a PS3, but primarily for Blu-ray and the odd game I can’t get for the 360. I know several people with both anf they don’t play PS3 often because IT HAS NO GAMES! (until this year, of course)

360 is for gamers and PS3 is for people who like Sony and MGS4. :P

  13. mark says:

@tatsujin, are you serious microsoft makes stable software thats the funniest thing I have ever heard!!!

  14. Bosski says:

I just happened upon this site while trying to find info for a marketing project I’m doing in school. I only have the Xbox 360, but I only bought it for one game: Oblivion. I’ve since bought 12 other games, but I personally understand why someone would plunk down the money just to have that one, awesome game. Eventually, I’ll probably get a PS3 since Sony is the RPG king and Xbox 360 shooting, racing and sports. As a woman, I don’t find too much on Xbox 360 that I really like; mostly I just settle.

  15. roffles says:

im so sick of hearing people say that ps3 is so much more expensive. i buy a ps3 = 400 lifetime. i buy a 360 = 350ish now? + 50 a year, 360 ends up being more expensive during the second year of owning it. honestly, i have both and love em both.. fanboys suck giant elephant balls. i do have to say i enjoy the ps3 more though, more options than just a game system and i like the controller. does need custom playlist though..

  16. Killguru says:

HA! Omen got pawned, his quote is like as if he has parkinsons disleksia disease. I rather my ps3. The xbox360 controller is left gathering dust cos i wont have it cost more than ps3 AND be inferior cos i have to buy a 20$ adapter crap. Then theres the wifi adapter crap. THEN theres the really expensive hard-drive crap (you wanna download hd movies? Fork out MORE money for retared looking xboxbox-style microsoft-only-brand CRAP (harddrive) Im pretty sure that this is a type of communism. The xbox360’s use after the 2.40 update for ps3 (which brings custom sound tracks and in game xmb) will be bin filler. I own both, but im so pissed off with the xbox360. It is not less expensive. Then when i had to bring it back 3 times, microsoft wouldn’t give me a refund!

  17. Kevin Mitchell says:

I own a Xbox 360 and a Wii. Plan on buying the PS3 MGS4 bundle when it comes out. I am the most unbiased gamer ever if a game is good on a system ill buy it. But I personally prefer the 360. The 360 just has more content that appeals to me, atleast a good 3 -5 AAA titles a year. PS3 is a year or 2 and all it really has is one killer title which was resistance(two if you include Ratchet and Clank). Now i know this year MGS4 is coming for PS3, but so is Gears of War II, Ninja Gaiden II, Fable II, Too Human, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Alan Wake, and Left 4 Dead on the 360. Xbox 360 just has more exclusive content that appeals to me. Plus 360 versions of games constantly run better then PS3 versions. Live is a much better service then the PS3’s from what ive seen.

  18. Erni says:

i own all 3 systems seriously i would say the ps3 is the best system as far as performance n durability hands down. i got my 360 about 2 yrs ago n got the red ring of death 3 times i brought a cooler for it and still got the ring of death. The wii is a really good system focuses on game play with is a lost art. also this yr the ps3 got its exclusives lined up yo name a few gt 5 prologue, god of war3, ff13 n ff13 verus, killzone2, mgs4, etc. from my experience i would say get a ps3 if u aint trying to spend that kind of money get a wii dont waste ur money on 360 i wish i never brought that peice of s*it of a system.

  19. B Shears says:

This article is pointless. How could any one consider a poll of 54 people to be worth elaborating on? 54 people (a chuck of which probably only own one of the two consoles and gave BS answers to throw things off) representing an ever growing and changing market made up of millions of consumers… I can’t believe any of us wasted our time responding to this junk.

There’s a reason why professionally executed surveying is done strategically by having the independent group poll equal percentages of people from all demographics. When you rely on people going to you then take into consideration how they found your poll and why certain groups would have found it and why others would not have which inherently throws your numbers off. If you want an accurate polling you have to go to the people without bias yourself, and not the other way around. It reminds me of a poll I once saw a year or so ago on xbox360.ign.com (only the 360 home page, not the main ign home page) that asked which console you preferred: Xbox 360, Wii or PS3. Of course the majority of people that saw the poll only had a Xbox 360 or planned on getting one in the near future.

  20. Deano says:

In a nutshell, these are the positives and negatives that draw me to or take me away from each system (including Wii).

    Positive:

    Xbox 360

Great online service with plenty of features (in-game chat and such).
    Achievements
More friends to play online with.
    Better library of games.
    Xbox Live Arcade.

    PS3

    Home
    Free online sevice
Plays PS2 games (in some cases)
    Blu-Ray player

    Wii

    Virtual Console
    Accessible to non-gaming friends
Library includes more ‘fun’ games than 360 and PS3

    Disadvantages:

    Xbox 360

    Fear of RROD
    Paying for online

    PS3

    Online is disorganised
    Library isn’t exciting enough yet.
    Lacks a compelling Achievement feature.

    Wii

    Poor online service
Lack of ’serious’ titles and too much focus on the ‘casual gamer’.
Inferior library to both PS3 and X360.
    Controls can often feel tacked-on.

  21. Jason says:

It seems clear to me that the here and now belongs mainly to the 360 for the sheer volumn of games that are on the market.

M$ are certainly investing in gaming houses to make sure that they produce exclusives for the 360 and it is working. It is a shame that they do not invest the same philosophy in the quality of their Hardware alleviating the fears of the “Red Ring of Death” and the more importantly HD Gaming.

Now that HD gaming is here I wonder how long it will take for games publishers trying to make their gamas better will find the DVD rather limited (me thinks its probably now).

  22. Heather says:

Stephen–I found the survey interesting. I’m sorry pretty much everyone else is making an ass of themselves. :|

Book recommendation–Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. I’m on a Vonnegut kick lately. ;)

  23. Someone Pretending To Be Stephen Totilo says:

    Hey guys,
Thanks for all the wonderful conversations on such a meaningless poll. I obvioulsy am biased towards the xbox because, by nature, I love degradation. That piece of junk xbox makes me feel like less of a man, and I like that! Now, back to playing the bext Xbox exclusive, ViVa Pinata!!
    -Stephen

  24. nouman says:

dude awsome thing u have going on, well i gota say ps3 because i had a ps1 and ps2 i did have a 360 for half a month but once i learnd u have to be online to play it i was like no thanx but with ps3 online play is free

  25. gunnar2906 says:

The main reason of appearing such absurd articles is that MTV is one of the biggest MS partners.
    Steven just did his job.
No matter you consider this article funny other ones like this will be published as often as possible. It is a part of MS’ stinking PR tricks

    About consoles

I own both of them and I got 4 games for my 360 and 30+ - for PS3.
2 - of my 360 games are scratched with DVD drive so I decided not to waste my money anymore. It is a point.
The second point is I have already faced a RRoD problem and had to replace my initially bought 360 to another one. This fact didnt bring me a lot of fun.
The widely know fact about Live superiority is nothing but another fake. As far as I know Live uses peer-to-peer connections (based on users’ consoles only), while Sony provides didicated servers for online gaming. It is a pretty expensive feature but PSN is still free. It is a great point too, and I dont know why SCEI keeps silent about it. PSN offers better technology for online gaming by default. BTW in-game chat is supported in all PS3 games too, it is not a point pros to the 360 at all.

  26. Clunge says:

I bought a PS3 purely so I could get an import copy of Rock Band (360 version is region locked). The PS3 is a great piece of hardware, but I buy every multi-platform game on 360 mainly because live is currently so much better than Sony’s lame PSN effort. I know PSN is free… but you get what you pay for.

I’ve had one RROD, and MS fixed the console and had it back to me in a week. It was a tough week, but I survived :)

I do use the PS3 for streaming movies and music (the media player interface is better than the 360), but it’s all about live… and though I hate to admit it I do like achievements too. Again because they are linked to live you can compare your progress against your friends.

  27. Charles says:

I’m on my sixth Xbox 360, Brand new original one from November 2006 overheated/froze during games, exchanged this and got a refurb that gave disc read errors and scratched discs during normal operation while stable, next three refurbs did the same thing. got my current refurb which is working beautifully with the exception of a few read errors, but it hasn’t malfunctioned and scratched a disc yet. (I used D-Skins and Game Skins to protect my disc otherwise these series of refurbs would have destroyed Halo 3, BioShock, Saints Row & Call of Duty 4). I bought the official 360 wireless headset which had a defective battery, I exchanged three times in a row each having the same issue, then Microsoft forced me to pay shipping to send the fourth one in and they sent me back one that is working to this day. 6 systems, 5 wireless headsets later and I can attest that Microsoft does not care about their customers at all, they make no effort to compensate for their errors, they ignore their malfunctioning hardware and instead blame the customer. I will be purchasing and supporting Sony and the PS3 on the grounds that Microsoft does not value its customers, nor their hard earned investment into their system. Xbox Live’s features will be on the PSN by the end of the year eliminating their advantage while at the same time not requiring a fee. I in no way shape or form have delusions about Sony’s past abuses of their consumers, however Microsoft has wronged me personally more than PS2’s DVD-ROM breaking after a couple of years. To those that choose to stay supporting Microsoft and for those that have had no hardware issues, good for you however you must know you’re the exception and not the rule.

  28. REZ says:

I have an xbox 360 and a PS3 , and to be honest i use the xbox 360 more than the PS3 simply because the xbox 360 has a much better games library: Gears of War, Bioshock, Mass Effect to name a few of my fav games. I did buy Assasins Creed for the PS3 but this turned out to be too boring and repititive despite amazing graphics (what a wasted oppurtunity!). The PS3 is no doubt a powerful console but i have yet to see a game that makes me say Wow. Game ports like Half Life the orange box and Lost Planet are also better on the xbox 360 so this makes me lean towards this console. The Playstation store is also clunky and slow and not as streamlined as xbox live. When you download a demo on the xbox you can play right away , while on the PS3 you have to install first , this is a bit annoying. I did get the RROD last year but booking my xbox 360 in for repair over the net was painless and i received it back (yes my original console) within 5 weeks. And oh yeah when playing DVDs my PS3 initially is whisper quiet but after 30mins or so a fan comes on and its a bit noisy. Overall if you ask me the xbox 360 is the better all roubd games console, while the PS3 is an attempt by Sony to showcase its technology and to push its blu-ray format. The xbox 360 feels like a proper games console, while the PS3 feels like a media centre with gaming tacked on the side.

  29. MK24ever says:

The first thread was ok, no signs of biased BS and the ansers were very well divided, in my opinion there were no losers or winners, each persson gave their opinion.

But now MTV found a way to turn this into another grey M$-pro PR, we allready know how M$ “works”.

    SHAME ON YOU!!

  30. Stephen Totilo says:

    @gunnar2906

Good morning, and, by the way, you’re wrong.

Microsoft PR has zero influence on what I do. There’s no greater offense you can make to a reporter than to suggest his or her work has been orchestrated by the people or companies he or she covers.

The thing that disappoints me so much about the response to this article is that no one is talking about the material I extracted. I made sure to write a balanced headline (read it again — if sides with no console!) and to break down some of the motivations multi-console owners have for spending more time with one console or the other.

I thought people would find it interesting that so many people even in this small sampling claim to be avoiding Xbox multi-platform software because of Red Ring concerns… or to see that favoritism for the controllers and games, even in this small sampling, seems split down the middle.

Don’t hate information, man! It’s all food for thought, you know?

    @MK24ever

No, shame on you for accusing me of betraying my profession. Occam’s Razor suggests I was just condensing the info from the last thread. No hidden agena. Scan through my work on this site, and, really, tell me where you see bias. You won’t find it.

  31. Alexis Machine says:

I have a PS3. Love it. Have it for 6 months now. But i have to say, i really don’t give a crap for much of the extra ‘features’. i like to play games. The Xbox seems to have the better selection whichever way you look at it and the games cost less. I’ve been seriously thinking bout returning my PS and getting an Xbox. Even MGS4 doesn’t factor into the equation. Splinter cell rocks. only one thing could stop me though…. Kratos

  32. The Future of Sega says:

Ok, here’s the facts. I first owned a PS3! And it’s the best video game system so far! Secondly, I ONLY bought a 360 due to Halo 3, which received WAAAAY too much hype! It didn’t live up to any of my standards.

Had I known that Halo 3 was just a Halo 2 “remix”, I would have NEVER bought a 360! The 360 is unreliable, it’s too noisy just like the original, it doesn’t have a quick response time like the PS3, it overheats according to what I’ve heard.

My 360 hasn’t overheated yet, because I rarely even play it anymore :)

Now when it comes to PS3, the interface is superbly attractive, loading music onto the PS3 hardrive takes less than half the time it takes to load on the 360, the PS3 almost seems compelling enough to name the new super age computer (It just needs to be able to contain an internal 500gb hardrive or higher, and that will seem legit).

But a couple things I have noticed is that when I was watching Prison Break Season 1 and 2 on both my 360 and PS3, the 360 shows the picture in brighter detail. The PS3 shows it in a darker detail but with a more realistic image.

So that must be the reason when they compare a PS3/360 game port. So in all honesty, the PS3 has the better graphics.

Now for the 360, it has rumble and the PS3 doesn’t here in the US. But on April 15th the PS3 will have rumble. With that being said I hope that the Dual Shock 3 will be packaged with the new Immersion Touch Sense rumble.

And if that comes true, the 360 will have the lesser rumble, and the PS3 will dominate that category, only if the Dual Shock 3 has Immersion Touch Sense rumble in it.

Although Xbox Live cost $60 bucks a year, the PS3’s online service works quite well. I have never complained about it. It always easy to connect and find someone to play with on the PS3 network, but with Live you damn well nearly have to wait for almost 15 mins just to find someone to play with! Xbox Live always annoys me because of that!

And not only that, but the majority of Livers only play Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4. Wow, that really seems like a social gathering when the majority of Livers only play 2 games at most!

Now with the PS3, you will find gamers almost EVERYWHERE on any game! The PS3 online service seems more reasonable. There’s not alot of tards on PSN, but on Live, the tards are everywhere!

And I’ve come to observe that PS3 gamers seem more matured than 360 gamers. PS3 is like hanging out at a rich quality hotel, and having a party there with all of your friends! But the 360 when playing online is like always playing against some maniac who mashes buttons just so he can beat you, and not enjoy the game.

For prime example, Halo. You’ll find asstards like that everywhere when it comes to Halo!

But overall the 360 is still an entertaining system. I enjoy playing the Orange Box on it the most! But the PS3 clearly wins the Nex Gen battle against the 360!

The PS3 is the most reliable, most credible, most fun, most thrilling, and the most everything overall than the 360.

Oh by the way, I’m just curios, how many trade mark characters, “Crash, Mario, Master Chief, Sonic….” does the 360 have? And how many does the PS3 have? :) Thank you! lol

  33. bob dobbes says:

I bought a 360 because there are more good games for it. Go to metacritic.com and look at the number of 360 titles rated 90 or higher… you get about a dozen.

Now look at PS3.. you get like 3, none of which are exlusive.

I’ll consider buying a PS3 when there are good games for it I can’t play on my Xbox, or when I switch to Bluray.

  34. g4m3r says:

i think the xbox 360 and ps3 are different enough (in terms of offerings) to make it all come down to preference.

as for me, i’d prefer the 360 for online gaming, and i’d prefer the ps3 for japanese style games (which in the future i predict will be more abundant on the ps3 instead of the 360). i think the xbox360 is a more appealing system for western gamers and the ps3 for eastern gamers.

i own all 3 systems and i seem to spend time almost quite evenly among all of them (though, i must admit i spend the least time on the wii, but not by much).

  35. Arlen says:

Stephen, I’m astounded by the amount of negative feedback to this article. I think you’ve pieced together some fascinating data in a compelling way; sure it’s neither rigorous nor scientific, but it reveals some insight that hasn’t seen much air-time in general gaming conversation. I appreciate your work here and hope to see more posts like this in the future.

  36. Aaron Sarazan says:

Stephen: “There’s no greater offense you can make to a reporter than to suggest his or her work has been orchestrated by the people or companies he or she covers.”

Never say that to trolls! Bad!

I had a lot more in-depth stuff typed out, but I posted and got the spam-check wrong, and it blasted everything into oblivion.

Implement OpenID or something because that’s just %@#$%~@@.

  37. erichoya says:

I have both a 360 and PS3. I was originally going to hold out for a while before buying a PS3 but when they started phasing out the full backward compatibility I bit on one of the 60gb models.

I find myself playing the 360 a bit more, primarily b/c I have more games for it and it was the system I bought both Guitar Hero and and Rock Band for.

Achievements play a bit of a role, as I enjoy having the option to reach for them. Gamerscore is not a big deal, but I like the feeling of accomplishment I get. I just finished Uncharted for the PS3 and enjoyed the achievements system Naughty Dog integrated into it probably more so than 360 since they included a mix of achievements and tangible rewards (i.e. new rendering modes, character skins, etc..)

One area that I like the PS3 much more is with savegames, particularly rosters for college sports games. With the functionality of the memory card reader, it makes it very easy to download and update rosters straight from the internet without having to go through some type of extra hardware.

    You’r right, I shouldn’t have said what I said.

    I apologyse, really!
But I connected what the user before wrote with the general PR we are used to see from M$, I can’t forget the beers they sent to journalists in Europe and the boat in France and the chairs with viral campaigns in the Sony PS3 launch, and those are just a few examples of what M$ can do in terms of “evil” marketing, In US it’s even worse, so it’s very hard to seperate legitime journalist and “news” of Viral campaigns and “reversed-journalism”.

I didn’t wanted to ofend you or your profession.
    Hope you can forgive me.

    Greetings from Portugal.

    again, sorry.

some guy said that everyone spends their time on 2 games on 360?!?!?!?

correction more people play them 2 games than all the ps3 online gamers put together.

other than that i play pgr4, graw2, rsv1 and 2, forza2 frontlines fuel of war, even old games from release you can get games on easy.

most games on 360 find you a match really quick like cod4 a few seconds, just a few older ones take a while.

everyone uses mics on 360 too.

I’m no troll, just read my comment from the previous thread, I’m just to much used of “false” fournalism that Internet used us too, but it’s goof to see the autor deffending their honour, that means that some still have it, just like Stephen did.

My comment from the previous thread:

” won’t pronounce myself directly, maybe because in the past I was a crazy PS fanboy and whatever I say may be suspicious now.

But I’ll say that there are some great ansers here, I have a PS3 and I’m quite happy with it, but I can understand some of the arguments of X360 owners.
There are many factors that are more about personal taste than just “technical” things, the country where we live, the way we live our lives and even the “design” of the consoles may be a factor to choose one over another, Americans, Europeans and Asians have very very different cultures, America is more about “spectacular, BIG, sensacionalism, “pimp” and… war (sorry)”, Europe is more about “unic, art, scared of war (we lived it…), life-style, traditions and old values”, Asians are more about “excentric, perfeccionism, new sensations and nacional brands”, in the end all that matters, because our education takes us to apreciate different things, Wii is more “asian”, it’s excentric, “anime games”, Nintendo brand, Xbox360 is more FPSs, American Sports, Community, and also “american brand”, Sony is not so connected to a single continent, maybe because they divided very well Sony Studios and SCEE, SCEA and SCEJ work all for their respective regions, they know what the peoplle from that continent want and they have the Studios to do the games, all in all, they can’t gather a very big and closed group, but a fragmented group of PS buyers.

In the end we have a very good and diversified market that as something to please all, and in the end, everyone will want to try the other platform game, even if they “scream” they hate that console.

PS: if you made “backspace” you could have recovered all your text.

I’m lucky enough to have all six currently-supported gaming systems, so I get to enjoy any game that I want as well as Blu-ray movies.

With that being said, I find it strange that so many of the reasons people are giving for their PS3 preference have nothing to do with the current state of the PS3. Home, in-game XMB, tropies, MGS4, GOW3, FF13, etc. are all still a ways off, and furthermore, Home and the trophy system will never match the achievements system because they weren’t there as a standard on day one. Will I get trophies for getting all 750 skill points on Ratchet? Who knows? On top of this, I’m still waiting on Sony to make me feel connected with my friends and my community like I do when I’m playing my 360.

It feels like the 360 fans are enjoying themselves now while the PS3 fans are convinced that at some undetermined point in the future, they really will enjoy themselves!

You judge a console by one game?
    *sigh*.

Personally i’m a 360 fan, because i have one. My brother had playstations over the years and i never liked the controller. The change from dpad only to tacked on analogue sticks was never corrected and i don’t understand why they’ve never taken an ergonomics class to change that.
For me the controller matters. The Messenger kit matters. Playing on a platform where i know my friends are online and i can chat/IM/msg them as i please or simply invite them into my game matters.
There’s nothing on the ps3 that would entice me to buy it, maybe if i hadn’t experienced the joys of gamerscore, persistent online presence and working in coop for achievements i’d appreciate a ps3 more (seems like most fans of the ps3 haven’t tried those various 360-experience ‘hooks’).
Everyone i know has had TLoD yet we’ve all gotten the console replaced and continued on, because it’s about having all those great games (exclusive or not), community (active or passive - ie playing with friends or simply seeing that they’re online), and gaming.
None of us will get a ps3 for anything other than AAA smash games (we’re gamers after all) or blurry - it’s just not worth the price tag (try forcing another coupla hundred quid past your other half for more gaming) especially since Sony did nothing but lie about its capabilities from day one then smack talk all the compeitition when they failed.

I do not fear the TLoD (why fear the death of an innanimate object?), i love the controller, i love the structured online presence, achievements, gamerscore ‘peeing’ competitions and connectedness. Now if there were a policy of server based games (ranked..) and some GUI icon caching i’d be happier..

Most of my gaming… actually all of my gaming is done on the Xbox 360. I can think of two reasons why this is. First, Xbox 360 has LIVE which is far superior to what the PS3 has to offer. And second I guess they have me hooked with the achievements. It’s fun having a goal to try to accomplish and then letting your friends see them. I also like to compare my achievements with those of my friends. I like competition and LIVE and the achievements make competing on the Xbox 360 a much funner experience than on the PS3.

The only reason I bought a PS3 was to watch blue-ray movies. If HD-DVD would still be alive I wouldn’t own a PS3 today. I have yet to buy a PS3 game. I’m waiting for their first party tittles to drop in price before I pick them up. Most of their first party games are still full price and I’m thinking it’s only a matter of time until some of them reach the $20 mark. And I’m enjoying the hell out of my 360 so I’m in no hurry to buy PS3 games.

And PS3’s online store is horrible. They really need to fix it. Plus they need to offer more demo downloads of the games they offer on there like Microsoft does with Xbox Arcade. I’ll never buy a download game without being able to try it first.

    @ bob dobbes

Guess what? Only ONE of the games on Metacritic for the 360 which got a score of 90 or higher is exclusive. And that one just barely squeaked by with a 90 (Forza 2). And the user rating is 8.8.

I wouldn’t go around parading the 360 as some kind of haven for exclusive gems. I don’t think Microsoft even has any in-house game devs; they just buy up existing developers, coercing them into 360 exclusivity.

Meanwhile, Sony has several in-house dev teams, and third-parties are just now getting to where they are comfortable coding for the PS3.

    Food for thought.

I do enjoy seeing The future of sega’s comment’s as theya re most definatly a view of a sony fanboy is so funny seeing some one compare LIVE to PSN and say they are equal. Maybe if you got a fats connection it would take you so long to find a game in match making becuase i am betting your NAT is closed in Halo 3 matchmaking meaning you cant find games are your connection is horrible and Bungie/ Microsoft dont want your laggy connection ruining the gaming phenoeom of Halo 3 for other users. LIVE doenst allow people with bad connections to host and only mathces them with people with euqally bad conections. Im not saying that the xbox 360 is way ahead as a console but it has to been seem soley on games at leats as that is what i am buying when i buy a GAMING console!!!!! not a movie player or a web browers box!!. i feel let down by sony as a luanch day owner of ps3 and they also have hardware issue look at my comment above. there is a healthy community on all A* games on 360 and the difference is on the PS3 there is still only a handful numebr of gamezs that even attempt online and gte remotly close to the level on 360. The point reffering to peopl on live and psn is irrelevant as on psn not many people have head sets as sony thaought it would be a great idea not to include a headset in the box along with a HDMi cable?????so we wouldnt be able to talk during games or to your freinds while on xmb which isnt even possible without staring at there gaming picture only!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no Immersion Touch Sense rumble as far as i know in the new ps3 pad. and why should i have to go and buy another pad with rumble as i already have two wouldnt that money be better spent on a good online system?!?!. correct if I am wrog but a headset for PS3, rumble pad and a High defination lead of some sort (all in xbox 360 box) comes to a higher price then paying for xbox gold membership.

I have a 360 and a PS3, new as of mid-Feb. While currently I have more 360 games, and multiplatform games I pick up on the 360 due to none of my friends having a PS3 yet - I prefer the PS3 gaming experience. Uncharted, Warhawk, Resistance, Ratchet, and Heavenly Sword have been awesome to me in the month or so I’ve had my PS3. My Xbox I’ve had for about 18 months now, and with the exception of Lost Odyssey and Crackdown… It hasn’t really captured me. Don’t get me wrong, I own 17 (sold about 5) games for my 360, but a lot of it is as some female above mentioned, just settling.

So right now, add me to the list of 360 > PS3 due to the social aspect, all my friends have 360’s. Overall though, I think PS3 has the better games, controls, and functionality (and reliability for that matter).

Oh, for the person who made a comment about “blu ray is pointless, I’ll just DL HD stuff with Xbox Live” - Just note that isn’t true HD and there is a noticeable difference between watching an HD-DVD/Blu-Ray and that crap. The video is compressed in a visually watered down format, and the sound is compressed as well. Then take into account that the only HD available on the XBL market are in 720p, not a true HD 1080p, you might start to grasp that you’re getting a higher definition than SD or ED, but by no means would I call that HD. Pickup a Blu-Ray or discounted HD-DVD player for $50. Worse case scenario it’s a really nice upscaler and you can pick up tons of HD-DVD vids at bargain bin prices now.

  50. Neoteny says:

And just to head some people off at the pass, I count the PC as a console, especially when it comes to something being exclusive. The point of exclusivity is to force someone to buy the system to play the game. Everyone has a PC.

Halo 3 and Mass Effect are going to be on the PC, don’t bother calling me out about that. “Timed Exclusives” aren’t exclusive.
