Wii ‘Rock Band’ Won’t Have Online Or DLC, Will Have Five Exclusive Songs

Just got more details from the PR team behind “Rock Band” about today’s newly announced Wii version of the game.

Basically, expect the feature set of the PS2 version, but with five added songs. No online, no downloadable content… at least not yet. Sounds like that could change in the future.

Here’s the official to my questions, from a “Rock Band” spokesperson:

“In response to your questions, ‘Rock Band’ for the Wii will have functionality similar to the PS2 version. There will be no DLC available, but the Wii version will have the five additional songs on the game disc. This version was also co-developed by Pi Studios [and Harmonix].

“When developing ‘Rock Band’ for the Wii platform, we focused on making the core gameplay experience as solid and enjoyable as possible while tailoring it specifically to the strengths of the platform.

“The Wii version still contains the robust four-player band experience and all the fun at the core of other versions of ‘Rock Band.’ However, because the Wii’s online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realized, we wanted to wait before we explored online functionality for ‘Rock Band’ to ensure that players get the high-quality of online performance they’ve come to expect.”

  1. pissed guy says:

WHAT THE *@#????!?! NO ONLINE PLAY OR DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT??? WHAT THE HELL? NOT EVEN CHARACTER CREATOR? %**$% THE GUY WHO MADE THOSE DESCISIONS!!! WII WANT MORE!! OMGOMGOMG IDIOTS

  2. Daniel says:

So you’re telling me, no Character creation, No online, No Dlc.
Who gives a crap about 5 extra songs
And then you’ve got to go buy an extra guitar because the Gh ones wont even work with it!
They better not do the same as they did with the 360 - and double the price it is over here compared to america!
I would understand if it came out in few months
    But August!
    This just screws the pooch!

  3. Steve says:

Personally, I’m going to get it anyway. I’m asking for a PS3 next Christmas, and none of the 360 games interest me (Besides Guitar Hero/Rock Band). I was going to get the PS2 version, but I like my Wii, and want more games for it. So if the PS2 version is the same as the Wii version, I’ll get the Wii version. @#$@$ DLC, I’ve never downloaded anything besides Virtual Console games. GHIII online was pretty sucky, because I didn’t know anyone with GHIII Wii. My only problem is the cost. But, my sister, her boyfriend, and I are all cashing in on it, so I don’t have to pay too much.

  4. ME! says:

MTV Games/Harmonix : Doodoodoo, just minding my business in sales of Guitar Hero II.

Activision : Hey! ME WANT SOME OF THAT CASHAROONIEZ!1!!1one!

MTV Games/Harmonix : Well… we were thinking of moving on… Okay, we’ll sell that game to you.

    Activision : YAY!

Soon, Guitar Hero III Was Released

Activision : YAY! I gets all dis moolah to myself! Dem suckaz of MTV Games! Hey! What’s this?! ROCK BAND?! WHAT THE EFF!

    Rock Band’s Sales Skyrocketed

Activision : What?! I PAY MY MONEY TO STEAL SOMEONE’S IDEA, AND NOW THEY’RE MAKING MONEY FROM THINKING OF THIER OWN?! I should probably think of the moral here… Eh, to hell with it, I’m just gonna sew their asses off.

MTV Games/Harmonix : What?! We can’t use GHIII controllers?! WHAT KINDA RIP IS THIS?!

And so, that’s how we’re here today. I’m buying the damn game.

  5. Jamison says:

I play my friends xbox 360 Rock band often, maybe 1 or 2 nights a month we get together, have a few hours at it and leave.

I am already tired of the stock songs.

What makes Nintendo/mtv games think we wont be tired of the stock songs within a month?

And oh (GASP!), thank you thank you thank you for offering 5 exclusive songs we will have never heard before in our life! How cool will it be to prtend to be jamming to a song no one knows! ANd since I love to sing on Rock Band, I cant wait to studder over all the words of a song that was made just to attempt to satisfy wii gamers who actually wanted DLC

  6. Dave says:

I don’t see what the problem is… you’re getting 5 extra songs for free. Bypassing the downloading bs… and as far as not being able to play online yeah fine, but I’ve come to realize that the reason I love my Wii is because all the games are awesome for parties/hanging out/etc. toss in a few only on nintendo single player titles a few hours a week and it’s a great recipe for a casual gamer. If online play is all you care about then join a MMORPG if you ask me and stop whining.

  7. Anonymous says:

If Wii gets the online game play and down loading sales will sky rocket for rock band on the Wii I’m still going to get it either ways.

  8. T bugz says:

Hey there might just be a chance for wii rock band dlc.Look at guitar hero 3.they said that it would not have dlc.later come to find out it is sometime in may.the same thing might happen with rock band.

  9. wiilova54 says:

without DLC and not being able to custuize charecters is gon to so friggn gay i was lookn forward to this game no im like ill just buy a 360 and get rockband for that nintendo you used to be good now you suck balls

  10. Josh says:

THEY ARE SO STUPID FOR DOING THIS. you’re better off waiting for Rock Band 2 because the drumsets will be different. (they will have symbols or sumthing…)

  11. mike valerio says:

cool want it ill get it @@#% 360 and xbox i cant download anyway awesome thanx guys

  12. Dissapointment says:

having no dlc and aonline is a big mistake if gh3 had online why doesnt rock band have it this will make gamers who have the wii not buy this game. i was hoping that rock band will come out for wii but now since it wont have online and/or dlc people just wight as well buy the ps2 version. (i thought you could do better than this)

  13. Andy says:

does it even have world tour?

  14. Alex says:

“However, because the Wii’s online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realized, we wanted to wait before we explored online functionality for ‘Rock Band’ to ensure that players get the high-quality of online performance they’ve come to expect.”

This is the kind of **#@#?~# I expected from Nintendo. We are paying for the same that we would for the PS3 or the 360. Maybe one day those thick-headed people on the other side of the planet will realize that there is this great thing called the INTERNET. Why not get our money’s worth? Nintendo can shove their stubborness up their ass.

I don’t own the Wii version of GH3 but the fact that the GH3 guitar doesn’t work is another example of Nintendo. Don’t blame Harmonix/MTV games.

Here’s a little shout out to Nintendo, *~@# YOU.

  15. Dirtyrabit says:

you guys are all retarded the reason there is no downloadable content is because the wii harddrive is to small to hold the songs. Because of this they are releaseing seperate game disks that allow the wii owners to get the downloadable songs from the other games jesus give them a break.

  16. Tay_dawg says:

I agree with everyone……that blows…..no DLC…..no Online play………my friend has a PS3 and i have a Wii…i has RockBand for the PS3 and it owns!!…….i keep braggin and saying just wait till i get it for the Wii it will be better” but then wat do i hear…..its just the PS2 version with 5 new songs…..look Harmonix…….u did so good with the Guitar hero’s……..i mean i expected better than you guys. Make a game that is worth buying for people and not some scam where u can make a few bucks…..wouldnt u rather put 2 monthes more time in and make a couple million dollars more? Anyways get ur prioities (srry bout spelling) in line…u guys r a gaming company supposed to be making a game that people enjoy…..not something that is just a copy of a crappy version….i expected more from u guys and if it wasnt for nintendo making SuperSmashBros Brawl I would prolly sell my Wii……and this is coming from a 13 year old kid who loves video games, but anyways im disappointed in u guys and u should be to…..-_-

  17. Jayson Morden says:

This is pretty morbidly amusing. Basically we’re getting an almost $200 peripheral-driven Carnival Games. Good for a short while if, you know, you have the attention span of a mosquito. It’s upsetting, and every reasoning behind this can be shot down so quickly that it isn’t even funny.

System doesn’t have the capability of handling next-gen stuff? Have any of these dimwits ever looked up The Conduit? It’s being designed from the ground up to take full advantage of the Wii’s potential. It looks absolutely stunning, even by the standard of some 360 games–and it’s still in development! Apparently everyone has forgotten how far ahead of the curve Metroid Prime was: You don’t need the biggest and the best if you know how to use what you’ve already got.

Storage capacity? How much do SD cards run nowadays? We play Rock Band 360 and regularly download songs and song-packs, and for less than the price of a 20GB 360 hard drive, we could go to Wal-Mart and walk out with more SD storage than we use for the game, all primed to use for the Wii.

I sincerely hope nobody buys this and Harmonix stock does a nice impression of Enron’s, but just long enough to leave them financially bruised and bleeding. Churning out a lobotomized product for a quick buck on a console that’s revolutionizing the way people look at games should be punishable by execution, preferably being stabbed to death with a rolled-up newspaper.

And Nintendo, you guys aren’t any better for sitting idly by and letting this happen again and again. As a company, Nintendo should be grabbing these guys by the throats and slapping the stupid off their brains, demanding that they stop raping their fine console with the business end of a Stratocaster.

    That is all.

tl;dr : Developers, think before you act. Or we will eat your firstborn.

  18. Cameron says:

Guys, I agree, those two stripped features absolutely suck.

But they said no Online Play or DLC AT LAUNCH.
I heard rumors of online play available in September, and of course it’d be easy to download songs off of the Wii Shop Channel with Wii-Points.

  19. Nancy says:

have a wii and no PS2 and am very excited about rock band and have no idea what dlc is and why I care.

  20. Nthatharoglo says:

I think i would rather buy Guitar hero 4. Activision spent more time coming out wit ha wii version, and actually changed some things, Harmonix just made a PS2 port. Much rather support Activision

  21. Grant says:

It will not have customizable characters for wii.The wii doesnt have a strong enough console base. But come on no online and DLC.What the hell people you could have focused on the top selling console a lot better.

  22. Ethan says:

Its been a while since anyone left a comment. I’ll fill everyone in.

    The deal is that:
They are releasing TRACK PACKS on discs which do not cost as much as the original price of the number of songs of the DLC that will be on the disc. There’s the DLC solution. I have to admit the no online at launch is a bummer, but it was recently leaked that Harmonix is working on a direct online solution that should be available for the Wii as an update SOMETIME.
Haven’t heard a ton about World Tour Mode, but things are looking for
    the best.
Character creation, I have not heard anything about. I sure hope so.

  23. V-Radical says:

wtf. i can’t afford to get an x-box or ps2/3. all i have is a wii. and i REALLY effing wanted to get rockband for it. but now i am seriously thinking about not getting it if there is no downloadable content. this sucks so much. this is awful. i am really mad. o well. that’s just nearly 200 dollars that nintendo will NOT be getting from me. :p

  24. Shipoopi says:

well let’s see, *I don’t mean to repeat things others said*

Track Packs seem to be the DLC solution and i guess they can be played like there own game in the sense that it doesn’t require the original Rockband disc, just instruments

i knwo this is in know way related really but i wonder if the rockband instruments will work for GH4 at all cause i have a GH3 wii guitar and now a Rockband Wii guitar

and i personally have to say Considering the flaws compared to the others it’s still pretty decent

    last thing::: i rated the 4 versions:::1.Xbox, 2.PS3, 3.Wii and 4. PS2

  25. Steven Chapman says:

the wii verson of rock band is still good to buy. online feature isnlt that big of a deal. i rather play with friends at home then its better since half the people i play with on GH3 for wii quit after 1 song so i gave up online… but then with the DLC july 16 for 29.99 for the wii verson rock band u can buy an cd with 30 songs that r DLC so stop bitching about DLC they will make track cds for it. since this is is volume one coming out july 16 im pretty sure they will have more..

  26. Seth says:

To stop you guys, Wii will have DLC for Rockband but you will indeed need to purchase the disc at a store near you and play the songs from that. I think Nintendo did say something about online DLC but you will need to check that out for yourself. I’m not sure how the discs will work, maybe you just somehow save them onto your Wii hardrive and its uploaded onto Rockband? Not sure. Yes there is no online boohoo but it often gets boring so stop complaining.

The only thing I’m worried about is if the Wii GH3 controller will be compatible with Rockband, and if we will be able to have our scores scored online to the Rockband homepage and be compared with other players and be able to have profiles.

  27. Mike says:

The Wii’s online prowess is well known. The PR release from above shared “”However, because the Wii’s online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realized”" WHAT? There are over 1 million Guitar Hero3 users that battle on-line 24*7 in all countries.

I would rather wait for Guitar Hero World Tour which will have all the Rock Band has, plus cymbals and on-line play.

  28. Steve says:

F F F F F…I bought this before looking into the whole online/download songs issue. I’m frikin pissed now. Seriously…there is no way storage can legitimately be blamed here. Even the most retarded solution of using flash memory would still work. A 4GB card will hold a boat load of “music.” This truly is lazy. Rush the product to market…everyone and their mother in this industry is just like EA.

  29. Dan says:

WTF!!!!!! I just figured that since the Wii was a major gaming system that had RB available that is just happen to have a DLC. How the f does this happen???? I play at my friends house who has a 360 and it is fun as #%~%, and new songs come out, we grab them and play them, it’s sweet as hell! This is why I no logner play GH, because who wants to play the same shat over and over and over and over and over? The DLC makes it. If you have played as many hours as a true gamer, you would realize it gets old and interest drops considerably.

PLEASE! I want a wii for my family because the games are fun for everyone, including kids and my wife even. I need this game BAD, it’s the only one I love to play anymore.

  30. ballack says:

what the hell! no downloadable content! that just kills it. im pretty sure people want to play different songs dont ya think! they should get that threw their heads and make it possible! since the wii INTERNET ACCESS!!! idiots
