Just got more details from the PR team behind “Rock Band” about today’s newly announced Wii version of the game.
Basically, expect the feature set of the PS2 version, but with five added songs. No online, no downloadable content… at least not yet. Sounds like that could change in the future.
Here’s the official to my questions, from a “Rock Band” spokesperson:
“In response to your questions, ‘Rock Band’ for the Wii will have functionality similar to the PS2 version. There will be no DLC available, but the Wii version will have the five additional songs on the game disc. This version was also co-developed by Pi Studios [and Harmonix].
“When developing ‘Rock Band’ for the Wii platform, we focused on making the core gameplay experience as solid and enjoyable as possible while tailoring it specifically to the strengths of the platform.
“The Wii version still contains the robust four-player band experience and all the fun at the core of other versions of ‘Rock Band.’ However, because the Wii’s online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realized, we wanted to wait before we explored online functionality for ‘Rock Band’ to ensure that players get the high-quality of online performance they’ve come to expect.”

WHY?! I guess my online connection with the Wii will only go as far as Medal of Honor: Heroes 2… Don’t really care about the downloadable content.
March 24th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
I might as well just get the ps2 version now and save a few bucks. What a horrible mistake to not include DLC and online play. Whoever made this decision is an idiot and should be fired.
Think about it…most people that have a Wii also have a ps2. 5 additional songs is hardly a reason to buy the Wii version over the ps2 version
I was waiting for Rock Band to be released on the Wii, but after hearing that it won’t have DLC and only play, I’ll either buy the ps2 version or finally cough up the money to buy the ps3
This was a such a lame move by both Harmonix and Nintendo
March 24th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
I wonder if you can customize your character.
March 24th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
Lame… I just don’t get this. I waited with baited breath for this on the Wii, nowing full well it won;t have downloadable content…
I love this quote: “However, because the Wii’s online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realized…” Umm, you haven’t yet realized that it, um, connects to the internet? And as of now, it can download games for the virtual console? Let me translate that awesome PR statement so everyone can understand it: “The Wii doesn’t have any storage copacity, and we assume Wii owners will enjoy playing the same songs.. over and over and over and over again. Plus, we have no desire to make money off of DLC.”
March 24th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
They might as well save themselves the trouble of even shipping this. With all of the whining over the dlc issue and not to have the online play they are freaking tards!
March 24th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Uhh yeah you can just make downloadable content availblie on the Wii Shop Channel. God! Get it through your heads!
March 24th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
What I don’t understand is why eliminate the online capability. Guitar Hero 3 has it and it works quite well. What’s really happening is they’re being extremely lazy, porting the PS2 version and they’ll get even richer off of it for little work. I can’t understand why adding an external USB hard drive won’t work to solve Wii’s storage problem (which should have been solved when the Wii was first designed. Way to go Nintendo). Not having DLC is a terrible idea. You can only play the same songs over and over for so long…
March 24th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Here’s the deal… they simply want to cash in on the Wii’s popularity but they do NOT want to work for that money. The witnessed what Activision was able to do with Guitar Hero for Wii outselling the other versions. Sellion more than a million copies.
But unlike Activision, Harmonix simply ported over the PS2 version to Wii and added 5 songs. That’s about it. Didn’t wanted to spend a month or two working out the online features. The need to cash in was stronger.
My advice? Skip this game. Don’t buy it. Please don’t reward with a purchase a company that simply seeks a quick buck.
March 24th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Wow. DLC is actually very important to me. I had heard Rock Band was coming out on the Wii, and I was anxiously waiting to see what the deal would be, but now I might just sell my WIi and get an XBox or PS3.
My wife and I are very casual gamers (our computer game experience starts and ends with Civilization 3 and 4… on the easiest levels), and we don’t give a rat’s patootie about Nintendo’s TM properties (e.g. Mario, Smash or Kart or any of that fanboy crap) - perhaps I am biased, but I imagine a large portion of other, older Wii owners are the same.
Nevertheless, now that we’ve been exposed to gaming (the TV strike helped), we’re willing to spend time and money playing video games. We’ve even been traveling with our newborn son up to Boston to visit friends with Rock Band once a month - something we never would have done without the exposure to gaming made poossible by the Wii.
But between this “Rock Band-lite” announcement and the failure to provide a Wii version of Civ Revolutions (or, apparently, any other games that aren’t either PS2 ports, mini game compilations or fanboy porn…) it seems like Nintendo is trying very hard to stop getting any money from my family. Which is a shame, because I suck (very badly) at hard core games like Halo, etc. and probably will end up with a $600 console that plays Civ, Rock Band and little else.
I like the waggle and I don’t care about HD graphics. I play video games almost exclusively with multiple people in the same room as me. I have my own disposable income and the desire to spend it on entertainment, preferably the interactive kind. The Wii was basically built for me. I just wish it had more than Wii Sports and GH3 going for it.
March 24th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
well i have to agree the no dlc and no online play is accually a big mistalke cause i know a ton of people who wont be buying this if thats true .
March 24th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
This no-effort rush-job cash-in is a complete insult to Wii owners, and I hope they vote accordingly with their pocketbooks. MTV/Harmonix deserve nothing but scorn for this shoddy effort, and I will shed no tears when this title tanks in the marketplace.

March 24th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Seriously… no DLC…. Might just be better off buying a PS3 with Rock Band instead of waiting for the Wii version… I mean, it’s not like the Wii is an uncertain console with “not so much” sales, it’s the best seller, so there’s a really good market there… Of course I’m not gonna pay 170$ for 63 songs… I’ll wait for the Aerosmith Guitar Hero and pay 30-40$ for 40 songs… Or maybe they’ll promise DLC in a few months, just like the GH3 DLC that’s suppose to come out Q1 ‘08…
Is the Wii Online THAT bad, or is it just that companies don’t give a damn?
March 24th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
And PS2 rockband sales will skyrocket after again. All my friends own a Wii and PS2, but I was the only one to buy Rockband for PS2 as they wanted to wait. They are all buying it for PS2 instead of waiting for the Wii b/c it’s another gimmick. Crippled games != sales. DLC wasn’t an issue for GH3, but online play and the full experience is.

“Will Wii’s Rock Band be compatible with Wii’s Guitar Hero III guitar?
Harmonix and MTV Games believe in an open standard philosophy of hardware and game compatibility. We think that there should be interoperability between music instrument controllers across all music games. This is clearly in the best interest of consumers, game developers and console manufacturers and will only help to grow the music game genre as well as inspire innovation and creativity. Third-party developers and publishers are welcome to freely support the Rock Band peripherals in their games. Support for the GHIII guitar peripherals in Rock Band on the Wii was not possible without Activision’s permission. Therefore, any questions regarding lack of compatibility with GHIII hardware should be directed to Activision.”
I am NOT going to be contacting Activision about this. Rock Band is YOUR game. You make it work. The Guitar Hero 3 Wii controller is just a plastic “Classic Controller” shell around a Wiimote. People have had no problems getting it to work as such on a computer, and Harmonix should have no problem getting it to work on Rock Band. I am not going to spend $170(like I was ready to) and have a perfectly functioning guitar I am unable to use because of your shortsightedness. I am not going to spend another $50 getting another guitar when I already have one I can use. The guitar is already interoperable. MAKE IT WORK.
Will each instrument need to be connected to a Wii Remote?
The Harmonix development team considered a lot of options in creating the Rock Band for the Wii instruments. At this time, we felt that sticking with the current peripheral functionality was the best route.”
I’m not all that upset about the ~?% and Drums being wired (though it IS a pain in the ass to have wires ready to be tripped over- at least make the drums Wiimote compatible) but it is dumb to not use the Wiimote on the guitar. Activision made it really easy and awesome to be able to use the Wiimote IN the guitar, with sounds coming out of the Wiimote. It makes no sense to have another wireless technology when you already have a great one that comes with the system. For all Activision’s problems, at least they were smart enough to do something cool like that.
After being so pumped up, I am really disappointed with this announcement. The lack of GH3 guitar usage is a deal breaker for me. I won’t be getting Rock Band until and unless that changes. I was all ready to have a Rock Band night, because I would have gotten the ~?%, guitar, and drums from Rock Band, and a second guitar from GH3, but I guess I’ll stick with GH3 (and GH: Aerosmith.)
Please, please reconsider this very bad decision, because I WANT to give you my money.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
And another thing: you say you support guitar interoperability, but then make a guitar that is incompatible with GH3! Make a guitar that is compatible with both, and then make the GH3 compatible with RB. That makes no sense. Stand by you statements!
March 24th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
100% agree with you Matthew.
If there is no compatibility with current GH3 guitar then they won’t be getting my cash.
Can’t believe we get stuck with wires if what your saying is correct. All gaming machines are based around the wireless technology. Fix you crap, Harmonix and MTV.
March 25th, 2008 at 12:30 am
Matthew — The guitar compatibility issue has also been a problem with the Ps3 version of Rock Band. Basically, Harmonix sent a patch for the game to be approved by Sony, which would allow Ps3 owners to use their GHIII guitars to play Rock Band. You can read about the story here: http://www.mtv.ca/news/article.jhtml?id=5855
Basically what I (and most people) gathered from the whole situation is that Activision wanted compensation, and Harmonix refused. Likely the situation with Wii-guitar compatibility is just a carry-over from this previous stand-off. It’s poor news for gamers, but frankly I’m much more unhappy with the lack of DLC implementation (even though it’s possible) and lack of defining features (band world tour) in the Wii version. 5 additional songs is a nice gesture to compensate for the long gap since the 360/Ps3 release (sorry Europe), but not justification for the rush job that it seems they’re making of it.
Not that it matters though, for EA/MTV; Rock Band for Wii is probably going to be an enormous sales hit.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:57 am
I hope the songs are gonna be released as dlc for live some day.
March 25th, 2008 at 6:18 am
@ Matthew Butch
The ‘interoperability’ thing between GH3, and Rock Band is not due to Harmonix’s lazyness, it’s due to the way Activision had it’s Guitars made. The game its self doesn’t use the a/b/x/y buttons on the controller, it only recognizes a specific signal sent from the guitar, this causes the guitar to ‘change’ it’s replication of the controller, and starts mimicking the shoulder buttons. It then recognizes a certain signal sent for the strum, this signal activates the button. This is something that Activision doesn’t want to share with Harmonix. The reason that GH3 guitars work in rockband is because the guitars all, initially, mimic the a/b/x/y controls of a standard controller, rock band doesn’t change the signal being sent.
In regards to DLC. Considering that profits from downloads on the Xbox360, and PS# have far surpassed those from the games themselves, I’m sure there was more to the equation than lazyness. I’m sure there was a dispute with Nintendo about charges, security, storage, or something along those lines that caused Harmonix/Nintendo to say no.
It’s unfortunate, but …
In regards to the Drums being wired. This, from what I understand, is due to the types of sensors used in the drum kit, batteries simply wouldn’t last with piezo sensors, and an electro magnetic switch.
March 25th, 2008 at 8:51 am
@ Masasuka
That may be true for the other consoles, but the GH3 Wii Guitar controller just mimicks a classic controller. I can use it on my computer because that’s all it shows up as such. I don’t need any special commands or secret connections. Its a disgrace not to be able to use the GH3 Wii guitar in RB Wii.
I’m not that upset about the ?%* and drums being wired they don’t really need to be moved (though it would’ve cool). But not using the GH3 Wii guitar controller means that they won’t get my money. Even if its Activisions fault, they need to make it work (and it shouldn’t be- there is no reason not to be able to use the GH3 guitar).
March 25th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
I’ve actually had a night to calm down and think rationally about this press “release” regarding Wii Rock Band - i.e. no GH3 guitar support or similar functionalities, and no DLC or online gameplay - and I think I’m even angrier now than I was yesterday.
First off, as people have pointed out above, the failure to provide DLC makes no economic sense. DLC has already been proven to make mad money for everyone involved, so I simply don’t understand the purpose of excluding it, no matter what the initial time/monetary cost would have been.
Moreover, as a consumer, I’d rather spend slightly less money and get only the tracks I want, rather than to continuously purchase thirty to forty dollar plastic platters containing some content I want and other content I don’t. If you’d like to see proof that this method of doing business is quite profitable, Nintendo, I’d suggest you take a look at iTunes. It’s also better for the environment, better for your customers, and, in the long run, much better for your business. For example, there’s what I like to call the “play through” issue: as long as there is DLC, I’m keeping my version of Rock Band and all the peripherals, I’m going back to check every week and keeping my rockin’ skills sharp. I’m invested in the brand, as it were. But with no DLC I can “finish” the game and sell it (via craigslist, ebay, game stop or whatever). Harmonix and Nintendo get no portion of that second or any subsequent sale, and, more importantly, they lose the entire opportunity cost of every subsequent purchaser of the unit. This would have been less of an issue if Rock Band had come out on the Wii with all of the other versions, but because it’s been so long I expect most people (like myself) will simply continue to wait for the market price of the game to drop, significantly impacting the sales numbers for the publisher, or (as I am considering doing) those people who have been patient/hopeful up till now will sell their Wii and use the proceeds to purchase a competitor’s product like the XBox or the PS3. Harmonix won’t likely care about that, because either way they’ll be getting someone’s money, but I imagine Nintendo might eventually regret losing any of its hard-earned casual gamers.
Overall, I am just really disappointed. It probably would have been fine if they had either come out with this with all the other versions (seriously, what the heck was the delay for?), because I wouldn’t have had time to get used to the fulls versions and I wouldn’t have purchased GH3. Even an announcement before the Holidays that the game was scheduled for an early ‘08 release would have been helpful.
Additionally, if I were Nintendo, I’d be embarassed. They managed to bring in an entire new demographic into gaming, only to show them nothing but disdain for months. Heck, my MOTHER bought a Wii, as did I, because of the promise that there were games out there, like Rock Band and Wii Sports, that could use innovative interfaces instead of blood and guts and shiny guns to entertain. I’m flabbergasted that, despite its clear potential, I’ve somehow purchased a next-console that can only run last-gen games. And that it takes publishers twice as long to make those last-gen games work on my console. Again, I don’t care about the graphics, but the substance of the games themselves. And that is seriously lacking without DLC and online play.
One other thing - the addition of a few extra songs as some form of remedy is disrespectful of their customers at best. Harmonix would have been better served simply providing a straight PS2 port and acknowledging that it is such. Perhaps some form of statement explaining why it took so long.
Finally, as for the GH3 controller controversy, it is disappointing but not surprising. As an attorney, I recognize that Activision likely has a patent on the “wiimote-in-the-guitar-case”, and that the agreements between competitors can get complicated. As a consumer, I feel like saying “a pox on both your houses” and going back to watching TV and movies instead of playing video games.
March 25th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Don’t waste your time and money pre-ordering the Wii version of Rock Band. There’s no DLC and no online play This is basically the ps2 version for Wii. So you might as well save some money and buy p2s version today. It’s cheaper and you don’t have to wait 3 months. Harmonix and Nintendo really messed this one up. I’m so disappointed about this release that I doubt I’ll ever get excited about a Wii release again. I might do myself a favor and finally buy a ps3. I’m starting to realize what a waste of money it was to buy the Wii. The only games that will ever be good on the Wii are games developed by Nintendo.

i have all 3 major consoles and i would say save up for a ps3.it absolutely kills the other 2 in terms on online, grapics and quality
March 25th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Is it pretty typical now to be entirely let down by every major Wii release? After pining for months over my friends on other platforms jamming to GH AND Rock Band, we finally got GH3 for Wii.
By “finally,” I should say that we waded through months of it being out of stock due to high demand in stores and/or price gouged on craigslist by profiteers. FINALLY, we obtained a copy for the normal price.
And gaming was fun.
..for a while. We wanted another guitar. Well, XBox and PS have them, Wii must too, right? Um, nope. So we waited months to get an extra guitar. $70. Cool. Not.
Then it was fun again.
…for a while. We got tired of the songs. Then liked them again. Then got tired again. We salivated at the promise of DLC, and blinded by that promise, even through the Wii’s storage capability is measly. We believed that they had no reason to lie to us, since everyone wanted to PAY for the DLC and that everyone would in the end, be happy.
Well, DLC for GH3 is obviously not happening. And upon hearing the announcement for Rock Band, we got excited again. But reading this press release is really depressing.
It seems like developers and game companies alike, don’t really take the Wii seriously and therefor seriously neglect it and its popularity. What an insidiously terrible business move. I know dozens upon dozens of Wii owners dying to get their hands on some of the cool things happening on other platforms. Many of them just give up on the Wii altogether, and I see myself trending very similarly.
Rock Band will still sell lots of copies, which is entirely true, because people want new and more songs to play. Some consumers are dumb enough to plop down $180 to play “In Bloom.” I hope most people realize how this is business as usual for these companies and avoid buying Rock Band until they provide the same access as the other platforms enjoy.
An SD card is not THAT expensive.
March 25th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
I absolutely do not believe that Harmonix and MTV Games need Activision’s consent to use the Wii GH3 guitar. The GH3 guitar does not talk to the Wii, it plugs into the Wiimote, and the Wiimote talks to the Wii. No one needs Activision’s consent for the Wii to receive Wiimote signals. I believe Harmonix and MTV Games are feeding us a line, just like they are feeding us a line about why they are not including DLC. They aren’t willing to put any but the bare minimum of development into the Wii version.
Skip this game until/unless they provide a proper Wii version. If you buy it, it will only encourage other developers to give us junk. If it fails miserably, developers will recognize why.
March 25th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Are you guys that stupid. It’s kinda obvious why there is no download content for the Wii. The Wii’s storage device is 512mb. Where are you guys expecting to save these downloadable songs too? Thin air? If you knew anything about storage issues you wouldn’t be whining. PS2 doesn’t have downloadable songs why? Because there is no hardrive. Don’t blame this on the developers blame this on Nintendo for making a crappy system. Any next generation system that doesn’t have a hard drive should not be considered next gen. And as far as no online play why would they? you think that I want to find my friend using a friend code? Nintnedo doesn’t know the first thing about online. Now if you don’t mind i’m gonna go play my downloaded At the Gates song right now on 360!
March 25th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
THE HELL NINTENDO DOESN”T KNOW A THING ABOUT ONLINE. I, for one, praise the friend code system, it allows you and your friends to add each other without the worry of some creepy guy adding you. Also, if you haven’t noticed, many of the Wii’s online games still have the option to play with random people. As many, I don’t see why storage problems can’t be solved by an external hard-drive and why downloadable content for games can’t be feeded through the Wii Shop Channel. As far as controllers go, I highly doubt Activision has a patent on the Wiimote in Guitar shell thing. The Telecaster Wii Guitars do the same thing and they aren’t official (but they still cost $60, which is bullcrap). The drums don’t need to be wireless, there’s no point in it but for the guitars and microphones to not be wireless would equal total fail.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Wow. When I first heard this announcement I was actually excited - for all of about 10 minutes. Then I read this and other news/forums. And now…I’m thinking that if the developers are not going to make a proper version, and not include some of the things that actually make this game awesome (i.e., DLC, online play, etc.), then it isn’t worth my time or money. Seriously, “The Wii’s online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realized…”? WTF?! Have they even used a Wii??? Apparently not, or they wouldn’t be making such a BS statement as this.
Developers seriously have to stop shafting the Wii every time they make a multi-platform game. I cannot possibly tell you how perfect Rock Band would be for the Wii - and they screwed up, big time. I don’t think it would be laziness - no one is that lazy in regard to potential profits. No, this is just another example of how some developers don’t take the Wii seriously.
Ok, maybe the Wii’s storage system is seriously flawed, but that could be remedied through something, like, oh I don’t know, maybe an external hard drive? Or an SD Card, which costs substantially less??
Economically, and practically, this decision does not make any sense. The Wii could easily be the best-selling platform for this game.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
you know your all going to buy it anyways so quit whining
March 26th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Ok, what is wrong? ill tell you. Pi studios and Harmonix need to fire everyone of their employees and hire gamers. Everone that works at those companies just care about MONEY!! I mean, im only 14 years old, and money is the last thing i think about when i think about a job later on. Im actually hoping i can get a job at Harmonix of Pi studios, just so i can fire the retarded people who came up with the idea of no DLC for Rock band. I mean, thats what everyone was waiting for. If we just wanted to play the game with our friends, we would have just bought a cheaper game system. I like playing Rock Band with my friends, but i would also like to be able to download all the songs i like to listen to. I only have a wii, no ps2 or xbox 360. And i dont want to buy anything else. I like a wii, my friends like the wii, and i enjoy playing it. But since this stupid move came out with no DLC, i don’t even want to buy it. Im hoping they do change it l8r on, but until then, im not even going to think of buying it.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
i w8 for this? no DLC? no online? alrite, BIG mistake. i rather buy GH aero smith now. i agree w/ ever1 else that it NEEDS ONLINE SH*T! plz, just try. i know u can do it Harmonix…
March 26th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
What a freakin joke. No DLC makes Don SMASH!!!
March 27th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I don’t really care about DLC, but no online play?! Even Guitar Hero had that! What the hell does “we wanted to wait before we explored online functionality for ‘Rock Band’” mean?! I don’t want you to wait, i will want to play online with other friends who only have a Wii!
March 28th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
This is so stupid. Ive been wanting rock band soo bad since it came out and now that its out theres no DLC or online and my GH3 guitar doesnt work. This is @*?#%%%*!!!!!!!!!
March 29th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
i really dont care if it doesnt have DLC . i jus thope you can make a character
March 29th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Will not be purchasing this.
MTV games/Harmonix or whoever needs to delay to add GH3 Guitar support and DLC. I’m NOT gonna have a hundred different redundant guitar controllers sitting around.
And like others have said, it can’t be that hard seeing as how its just a shell using the Wii-mote. Geez!
March 29th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Hi. I love GH3 on the Wii. I pre-ordered GH Aerosmith last week at Best Buy. While I was in the store, i tried out the RockBand for PS2. They had some songs I liked, some I didn’t. In a perfect world, I would agree with Marcus above and I would gladly pay (through the nose?) for only the songs I wanted. This could be in the hundreds of dollars and I would be be GLAD to spend it if I was getting what I wanted (and ONLY what I wanted).
After reading all the comments above, I think I am either going to buy a cheap PS2 and Rock Band or..I am going to buy a PS3 so I can watch Blu-Ray DVDs and also play Rock Band. Either way, I WONT be buying Rock Band for Wii. Let’s hope Nintendo recognizes us and the loss of $$ and changes their decision (but I wont hold my breath). Ken
March 30th, 2008 at 9:58 am
O COME ON THIS IS RETARDED
NO DOWNLOADED CONTENT JUST 5 EXTRA SONGS!!!!!!!!
WHAT A Waiste
March 30th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
I don’t know if this is true, but in the Wikipedia article, the PS2 version also lacked character customization and you had no options in the setlist or the order of venues. I feel that severely limits the awesomeness of the idea of Rock Band. I mean, if you have to stick with generic characters and playing the songs they tell you in the order they tell you at the venues they tell you just means that you are on a monorail or something…you just hang on for the ride. I’d rather have options, and if the Wii version is a port of the PS2, then that definitely removes the awesome power of Rock Band and forming your own rock band. I feel that is what the core gameplay is.
And yes, online capability is cool, especially being able to get new songs.
March 31st, 2008 at 6:38 pm
The Gh3 guitar and the Rockband Guitar controllers are not compatible, so if you want to multiplay both you need 4 controllers. That totally pisses me off. I am not buying it now. I can understand and accept the no DLC, but comeone 4 freaking guitars
March 31st, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Ok, chris, maybe you should research before you post stupid comments like the one above. Rock band does not support 4 Guitars and never will, there is only one thing you would need to buy if you wanted the full experience and that would be 1 extra guitar so you can have a bassist also. The game already come with a drum set, guitar, microphone and 1 guitar, meaning the only other thing you would need to buy is one guitar to be 4 players.
April 2nd, 2008 at 12:36 pm
y2kss66 - easy boy - I believe Chris is saying he will need 4 guitars to get the “full experience” for both platforms.
April 3rd, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Epic fail.
I reserved Rock Band (Wii), but no DLC is a deal breaker and don’t give me that stupidity about “no storage device”. The Wii has SD Card support that is easy and cheap to add a good 2GB to your system. That’s more than enough space to DL songs onto.
However, I suspect the “real” reason why DLC isn’t on the Wii (for any games besides the Virtual Console) is because of DRM. Nintendo doesn’t have a DRM solution for storing stuff to SD cards so pirating DLC will be trivial. This is why VC games cannot be played off the SD card.
April 6th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Okay people the problem really is not the storage issue. The PS2 has a hard drive sold separately, and no downloadable content…….. interesting, it also has an Ethernet car attached to the hard drive…. not downloadable content…. interesting. so what is the issue here, The issue is and clearly becoming that the Wii and the PS2 are dying systems. Even those the wii is new and i bought looking forward to it potential. but the fact that Wii owner are getting screwed doesnt help the system. The PS3 and XBOX whom we all know Microsoft has thier greedy hands on games now because they are slowly failing in the computer industry slowly. These are major corporations that have multiple different products, and are better at marketing. Nintendo is game and has bee for many years, until sony made it was into the market from selling TV’s and radio, etc. Then you have Microsoft coming in. What needs to happen is nintendo need to go back to what they are A GAMING COMPANY, give us the big hits that we want like they used to. Forget these side companies that just want to get while the getting is good, It is your system nintendo, Dont let a little side company mess it up.

Just reading the release info on gamespot, and in the description info it shows the release date of June 22, 2008, with features including “downloadable content” and online play. Maybe something has changed since the initial release details? The compatability thing is a nice kick in the junk though… hope that gets resolved.

well, here’s my point of view. Look how many gh’s there are:1,2,rock the 80s, 3, and now aerosmith(which looks pretty dumb) If they made that many rock bands, and dlc for the wii 3, I guess that they might make another one( but only for the wii and ps2 since there’s no real reason for a rb2 for 360 or ps3) and hopefully that wil have online play and dlc. don’t get me wrong, i am mad that they just stuck a really good version of rock band in wii owners noses, and then stuck us with such a piece of crap, but maybe they learned their lesson and should either fix it, or get somebody who can.
and who’s genius idea was it to even put out news of a release of rock band before letting out aerosmith. what did they think that if they put out a crappy enough version of rock band, everyone would go but gh:aerosmith. Whoever made that decision should also be fired. That’s just a case of laziness, and wii owners will defenitly not stand for it.

The companies just don’t give a damn. I mean, the Wii has pretty good online capabilities. Look at Medal of Honor Heroes 2, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. And, what’s soon to come out, Mario Kart Wii. Of course, there’s probably more, but that’s all I have right now, sadly that’s Wi-Fi. They’re just lazy as hell, and be like, “Oh, we’ll put in five more songs, and rip off Wii owners for a PS2 version of Rock Band for the Wii!”
I say, ??*%@ this. I’ll just wait for the next music game to come out that has online content.

its a waste of time and $$$$
…by the way, i might just get a 360 this summer so i might not waste my $$$ on the wii version
guitar hero for the wii’s online play was great, lots of fun
but without any online capibility or DLC, i call it garbage
