PS3/360 Owners, What Makes You Switch From One Console To The Other?

Are you a gamer who is fortunate to have both an Xbox 360 and a PlayStation 3?

Do you find yourself getting in a groove with one machine and ignoring the other? If that’s the case, I was wondering what makes you switch? Or are you constantly hopping from one machine to the other?

I ask because I noticed that I had been playing 360 for several weeks this winter, choosing against the PS3 versions of multi-platform games, because I have more friends on Live. Then the noise of the Xbox started getting to me and I switched to the PS3, which, thanks to “Burnout Paradise,” is now linked to a lot of my friends, too. I think “GTA” will yank me back to the 360.

You?

If a game is released on both consoles, then I always buy the 360 version, for Achievements and a better online service. I barely use the PS3 at all really, and I consider it a waste of money right now. Once Home is released, I imagine I’ll start using it more. Right now, I wish I’d have gone with the Wii over the PS3 (I’m missing out on all the SSBB goodness).

  2. Danh says:

Well, right now I’m on the 360 and until the PS3 has something I have to play on it, I do not see myself turning it on for a while. It sits there and collects dust like nobody’s business.

Achievements are great, the Xbox community is very social, like hanging out with friends on the weekend. The PS3 friend’s list is like the guy in high school I only talk to when I need to borrow a pencil.

  3. the professor says:

no one switches from ps3 to 360, only the other way around.

and my reason for said switch is the 360’s hardware failure of epic proportions. it is the only reason one needs really.

  4. Regdor says:

I have been playing Playstation since the first one came out, so why should i switch?

Any way PS3 Is Better Than 360

  5. Not a fanboy says:

Both the PS3 and the 360 have awesome games, and you’ll often find yourself playing one console more over the other, sometimes because one game is exclusive to a console like Bioshock, Mass Efect, and Halo for the 360, or Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Ratchet and Clank, or Heavenly Sword for the PS3. If a game comes out for both consoles, like the majority of the new and upcoming games, then I just basically read the reviews in different sites to see which one has the edge. In my case, I think the achievements piece is sometimes a bit overrated, and is not my determining factor when buying or renting a game, I look more for gameply, controls, graphics, and which version is more polished. Before, almost all games were better on the 360 as they were devleloped first for this console and then ported to the PS3, however that’s starting to change as some games are now starting to be developed in the PS3 first, so sometimes this makes a game run smoother in one console versus the other. If both games are identical then you may go with the one where you like the controller better, or the achievements if that is a must for you.

  6. Sone says:

I like the 360. It has the best games and gaming experience. I like playing my music, chatting and gaming at the same time…my game right now is still COD4, the online play is ridiculous! I think American gamers have always been loyal to games. That’s why we switched from Atari to Nintendo, Sega to Sony and now Xbox 360. The PS3 is alright for gaming but it’s a blue ray player and that doesn’t excite me enough to pick one up. I just remember the hype before it dropped and it still hasn’t lived up to any of it.

  7. Alex says:

I have both but find I play ps3 more. I’m addicted to warhawk lol and I prefer the controllers so if a game is released on both I get the ps3 version. Also I watch blu movies alot, can’t wait for home tho!

  8. always-honest says:

i have all three consoles and it depends on the games.. i switch on a regular basis. Now i’m playing R6:V2 on 360, Burnout Paradise on PS3 and galaxy on Wii. Most multi plats were bought for 360 untill now, but that might change depending on the title or quality.

    regdor: get a life fanboy.

  9. Mike says:

I had all 3 consoles until my 2nd RROD on my 360 and then I decided to sell it after my replacement arrived. I have since been playing my ps3 every day and havent turned back. Cod4 and Burnout Paradise have consumed the majority of my last 3 months and now I have become addicted to Pixel Junk Monsters. The Playstation Network is definately not the same as XBOX live, maybe its because I am a 36 year old gamer but I dont miss the achievements and overall high school feel that Live seems to offer. Oh! and it is also nice to pop in a blu-ray movie now and then (I dont hardly even watch standard dvd’s anymore as they seem to not look so good).

As for my Wii I played it for the first 3 days I had it….. now it definately collects dust!!

  10. Porkchizzle says:

I have both and used to be a pretty big hardcore 360 gamer. Then I got the red rings o death for the second time when I moved to a new city and had nothing to do. While I waited for my 360 to get fixed I fell in love with my ps3– Drake’s Fortune and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. I’m also loving BD’s from Netflix.

When telling people which console to get I still recommend the 360 because of its bigger library and live– price isn’t really the issue anymore, is it? I think that Live and my friends on it are the tipping point for the 360. I have a huge amount of community on that console, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I know that on Sunday nights these people play halo at 9pm and on tuesdays these friends will be playing CoD4. THe ease, speed and usual reliability of Live makes the difference for me.

Oh yeah, and achievements are 1337z0r!

  11. TBONE1138 says:

Depends on the games…. right now my 360 gets the most gaming time. The PS3 mostly gets used as a high def media center. Usually if a game comes out for both platforms I’ll get the 360 version as most of my friends have a 360. So for online gaming it makes more sense to get the 360 version. I suspect that eventually the tide may change in that the PS3 version of a cross platform game may have the edge, but until that happens I’ll go 360. GTAIV is going to be interesting though…. I’m waiting for the reviews to see which version is superior. I’m probably going to grab the 360 verison ragardless (friends list, exlusive DLC, etc) but if the PS3 version is superior technically I may pick it up as well as I am a severe GTA junky.

  12. Coach David says:

I use my XBox 360 for most of may gaming needs. If I have a blueray netflix movie to watch, then I fire up the PS3. I have grown very fond of the XBox controller. I also get frustrated with the difference in framerate from one game to the next on the ps3 vs 360.
Hopfully the PS4 will deliver on the promise.

  13. Royzy says:

When it comes down to it, it’s about which one has got the goods, and which hasn’t.

360 has had a few exclusives, but the ones I could care about, I could buy on PC instead (Gears of War, Halo…maybe, Bioshock, etc). Granted you need a bit more than an ‘average’ computer, but chances are you do, if you are playing console games anyway.

The ps3 has true exclusives coming up which are going to really test the water, such as MGS4, FFXIII (eventually), GT5, Motorstorm2, Resistance 2, LBP, Home, etc.

The exclusive GTA4 download content is a nice bonus for 360, but its for a game which a lot of people won’t complete, and may still only be timed exclusivity.

Ported games to ps3 have been sloppy, until COD4 and GTA4 showed that it can be done, you lazy lazy developers. Also, the porting will be to 360 shortly, due to it being easier, apparently.

Xbox Live may be better now, but if Sony wants to stay in the competition, they are going to have to equal or better it with their lovely firmware updates. Which undoubtedly they will. Achievements, for example, are coming ps3’s way this summer, along with a whole bag of stuff (which it should already of had).
    Oh yeah, and Home.

360 has the red ring of death. Even the Elites get it. Thought, with time, Microsoft (we all hope) will sort it out.

I am a ps3 fanboy - though I would never wish bad of 360, because if there was no competition, there would be no reason for anything to get ‘better’.

Where’s HD DVD gone? What’s that Blu-Ray, oh you killed him?

I’d say if there was going to be any switching, it’d be to PS3, not to 360. 360 has had it’s time, and PS3 is about to show us what gaming is all about, oh - and being a ‘media centre’, with it’s Video on Demand thingy that’s coming out.

  14. Angus says:

I only recently purchased a ps3 and found the number of original games quite low. I think when switching either way, the number of exclusives is small, though on ps3 I have been thoroughly enjoying Uncharted, which seems to justify my purchase as a sign of things to come. On the other hand Xbox has a handful of old favourites such as Gears, Lost Odyssey and (yes, I admit…) Bomberman Live…

  15. karmax says:

xbox 360 have better games, better online, i always grab xbox 360 versions. Ps3 is just a bluray player… was expecting better graphics and better ports.. but i’ll have to wait ps4..

  16. Slayerking131 (psn) says:

I only have a ps3, so dont listen to me if you dont want to. What I dont get is why pay for online play? sure it may have in-game-friend-chat, and achievments…but i really couldnt see myself paying for online when i could play for free. I very much enjoy playing cod4, with dedicated servers, (which xbl does not have) for free. To put it simply, the 360 was too expansive! (yes you dont here that much do you??) I mean really, not only would i have to pay anually for online, (and believe me, thats all i do on my ps3) But i’d also have to dish out 100$ for a wi-fi adapter. (which i have to have) my router is on the other side of the house, and theres no moving it. so there you go, im happy for people who like the 360, but i’ll stick with my ps3.

  17. eplekjekk says:

I tend to get the 360 versions of multiplattform games because of the controller, and because most of my friends have the 360 for multiplayer.

  18. WaltJay says:

For me, it boils down to a few points on why I play the 360 a lot more than the PS3.

    1. More friend with 360s
    2. Easier to play online
    3. The controller is much better
    4. Achievements, achievements, achievements!

The only games I play on the PS3 are exclusives like Uncharter and Ratchet. I do watch a lot of BD movies, so I do get my fair use out of the system.

  19. Jim says:

I have both and play them equally at the moment eg, Halo 3 and Mass Effect on 360 and Uncharted, Warhawk and DMC 4 on PS3.
But I buy all multiplats on PS3, partly due to controller preference and partly because I got the Red Ring of Death twice in 1 year, so it’s a pointless risk getting the 360 versions.
Overall for this year I see the PS3 getting most of my attention with a vastly superior line-up, Home and the massive improvements coming to the online service. And I’ve only just started using it as a media centre
so it’s definately going to be my primary console for the future.

  20. Danny says:

I still love my 360, but I’m growing tired of the way Microsoft portrays itself to its fans. Namely the way Xbox live is so locked down, and it is done so for the sole purpose of making it’s true fans pay multiple times for things that shouldn’t cost anything.
Xbox live shouldn’t cost money and developers should be able to release as much free stuff as they want without any hassle. These are things I’m getting tired of, and are gradually changing my feelings of Microsoft and Xbox.

  21. RandomPickaxe says:

Achievements play a large part in my decision of which version of a multiplat I will buy, and, as a result, the 360 version comes out ahead most of the time. However, the version my friends are getting also comes into play, as do the controls and graphics/framerate (I bought the PS3 version of Paradise for these three reasons).

In my specific case, the PS3 version will look better than the 360 version if the two look identical, because I use different monitors for each system and the PS3 monitor has a much higher contrast ratio. So if Sony managed to incorporate Achievement points into the PS3 base level online system (and include a Gamerscore), as well as improve the usability of the other front end stuff (In game XMB, friend messaging, voice chat, friends list and improved PSN Store), then I would move over to the PS3 for multiplats because it is quieter and more reliable (every time I play my 360 I fear for the RROD)

So, in short, as of now I play my 360 predominately because of the superior front end, achievement points and the fact that it has more exclusives, but if in future updates Sony can get the front end up to where it needs to be then I could see that trend becoming reversed.

  22. Ralphie says:

PS3 all the way. Will never buy a 360. Live in Europe and visit Japan a lot. 360 not doing well at all in either territory. Seems like the US has forgotten. Do not underestimate the power of Playstation.

  23. Stephen Totilo says:

Lots of good answers in here. It’s funny, but for me, Achievements are a total non-factor in this. It seems I’m in the minority.

Ralphie, let’s not turn this into another systems war thread. I’m really curious about the issue I started this with: how someone who has both machines divides their time between the two and what makes them switch off from one to the other.

  24. Adam says:

These days I’ve converted almost entirely to PS3 due to my constant 360 hardware failures, and ongoing problems with their DRM which has locked me out of many of my Arcade games. Until there an outstanding exclusive game is released, I’ve given up on my 360. I just don’t have the patience anymore to call India every other month.

  25. Jason says:

I have both a PS3 and a 360, and i prefer the PS3’s controller and all around experience, i get great games, blu ray, and I use the web browser on my flat screen a good deal, I also find the interface for streaming content from your PC is easier and much faster (why does 360 have a loading bar for my 2meg photos??) Right now i cant play my ps3 (it works fine, but my sound system died, long story but i can play only the 360 through my tv’s speakers). Anyway, i’m dying not able to play DMC4 and Army of Two on PS3,..i prefer the PS3’s controller for most games so I get that version. Ive been picking up the 360 a bit more until my sound system is returned from repair but its just not as fun, and less of a full entertainment experience (blu ray, web browser, etc..)

  26. Frosty says:

I alway play my 360. I use the PS3 as a blu-ray player and the Wii only gets turned on when I having a party. I must admit though the Super Mario Galaxy is one of the most enjoyable games I’ve played in a long, long time. I suppose the reason I play the 360 more is down to on-line support, the fact that I owned it first and without a doubt the achievements.

  27. TheMART says:

    GAMES

And those are best on the 360, simple as that

  28. ColossiSLayer says:

Man, if I am paying for 250+ for a console or anything, it shouldnt break just from using the system alone, the PS3 is great and it has Folding@Home . . .

  29. Spartan says:

The only thing thats gets me to switch is whatever games Im playing like I usually dont stick with one for a period of time longer than the other Ill play some halo on my 360 and when I get bored Ill play The Club on my ps3. Its really just whatever Im in the mood to play. I mean when Ninja Gaiden 2 comes out on the 360 I prolly wont play anyother game til Im done unless Im craving some third person shooting which I crave quite often.

  30. Marc says:

For me I use the 360 more than my Wii and PS3 - for gaming.
My PS3 is my movie player.

Its games like Halo3, COD4 (which I play on 360) ,Forza 2 and NHL08 that keep me on my 360. Friends being more active on 360 is why I play multiplatform gms on 360. Achievements also play some effect in it, but not too much.

All in all I think its worth having all 3 consoles, but must say that if I was a hardcore gamer I would go with 360. But with PS3s big guns right around the corner I see the tables turning.

  31. drdre74 says:

I have both systems and I find myself playing my PS3 way more. The 360 just keeps breaking down on me. I’m on my second and about to send it back. I got the RROD and now Im getting a disc error on every disc i put in. Plus right now i have more PSN buddies that I’ve met just on message boards and I have call of duty 4 on PS3 which gets all my attention right now. I dont like playing my 360 because of all the issues I’ve had with it since I bought it and i’m always scared its gonna crash on me all the time.

  32. Gamerdad says:

I used to own both systems for a while. I already had an Xbox 360 which was just returned from the repair graveyard for the infamous RROD, so I decided to jump on the PS3 bandwagon before they axed the 60 gig.

I bought the system with Spiderman 3, and took the game back the same day (yeah it sucked that bad). Wound up trading it in for FFXII and couple of other PS2 games since that SKU still had the emotion engine.

Fast forward a few months, and I’m on the couch playing Lost Planet (360) when my wife points to my PS3 and asks, “do you still play that thing?” Thats when I realized that I hadn’t seen or heard of a single game that caught my interest since the systems release aside from MGS4 or FFXIII which are still being pushed back, and had barely turned the thing on except to customize the background, receive system updates and play DVD’s. So I packed it up, took it back to Gamestop, traded it in for cash and used the money to buy more memory for my RS7000 and a SCSI hard drive for my AW2816.

Fast forward to the present and now my 360 just crapped out again (as of last week). If you ask me I’d have to say that overall this “next-gen” is starting to suck something major.

Microsoft needs to rebuild their cursed box from scratch or these Atari 2600 style catastrophes will continue, and Sony needs to stop force feeding their premature HD format down the throats of the masses and actually focus on gaming. Maybe then people wouldn’t feel the need to engage in fanboyism to defend the inherent flaws that exist on each side of the console playing field, and the rest of us could actually enjoy the sh!# we’ve paid so much money for.

  33. Ryan says:

I have both consoles. My PS3 has so much dust collecting on it. I got it for my wife so she can play Ratchet, Heavenly, and Drake’s. For gameing, I choose the 360. All the cool games that everybody is playing online is on the 360 IMO. My Playstation 3 is just a great buy for a Blu-Ray Player. I wish I could do more with my PS3, but it just sits, waiting for another girly game to come out for my wife. All my friends have a 360, so that’s were I’m at.

  34. Chris says:

Overall, it depends on the game.

If you prefer graphics, the Playstation 3 excels in a lot of multi-platform games, and the 360 excels in some, too. Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Devil May Cry 4, Burnout Paradise, and many other games have slightly to much better graphics on the PS3, and games like Assassin’s Creed are better on the 360.

When it comes to controls, opinions are also split. The 360 controller is nice, and the triggers are well placed, but most of the other buttons aren’t. The PS3 black Sixaxis controller is decent, but out of the three controllers I am about to finish mentioning, the DualShock 3 controller blows them all away. The weight is perfect, you can get them in black or white, the controls are by far the tightest and most responsive I have ever seen on any video game console, and the rumble is amazing. Try buying some DualShock 3 controllers for your PS3, they’re the best controllers you could find for a game console that actually counts (which excludes the Wii).

Then it comes down to some smaller things:

The 360 has a very loud, obnoxious fan, while the PS3’s is much more quiet

The PS3 is heavier than the 360

The 360 supports up to 4 controllers, the PS3 supports up to 7

The PS3 has built in wireless, a memory card and SD card reader, 4 USB ports, HDMI, and an upgradable hard drive. You could stick with the 80, 60, or 40 Gigs, but I upgraded to 200, which is very easy if you can find any hard drive.

The 360 has XBL, which is very good, but actually costs money, which varies on the type of membership you have. The Playstation Network is alright, with most of the bare necessities, it will soon be integrated into Playstation Home (which looks amazing), and it’s absolutely free.

The Playstation 3 can play PS1 and PS2 games, as well as connect to the PSP in many ways. The 360, since it is made by Microsoft, can connect to a PC in various ways, too.

Most importantly, in my opinion, it comes down to exclusives. As an owner of a 360, PS3, Gamecube, PSP, and some older video game crap, I was disappointed by some games, but especially by the 360’s. Out of the grossly hyped 360 games over the past years, the only ones I actually liked were Gears, and I somewhat liked Halo 3. Bioshock wasn’t very good despite the reviews, imo, Halo 3… oh, Halo 3. For the most hyped, most highly overrated game in gaming history, Halo 3 sucked. It was an average game at best, and it did not deserve all the attention at all. Based on the hype, I was expecting a game from the heavens, and this one was a decent FPS.

I liked Dead Rising, although it was short, Mass Effect sucked horribly, and Lost Odyssey was kind of weird because I’m not much into japanese RPGs.

Then comes the Playstation 3 exclusives, which I believe are some of the greatest and most fun to play games based on my experience with the various consoles. Resistance was awesome, it was my first PS3 game, and the online community was amazing. I regret playing different games these days, but the 6 entire months I spent becoming a near expert and world-ranked Resistance player was the greatest gaming experience I have ever had.
Then came Motorstorm, a great game for racing fans, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, an amazing online game, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Flow, Everyday Shooter, Pixeljunk Monsters, Folklore, Eye of Judgment, Time Crisis 4, and Unreal Tournament III. All of these games are amazing, and if you don’t have them yet, I recommend checking out at least a few.

The next part is probably the most important. If you don’t like the PS3, you don’t have to, but pretty soon you’re going to regret not getting one if you don’t have one already. The PS3 is getting Haze, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigplanet, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Online, Gran Turismo 5, God of War III, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Jak and Daxter, Timesplitters, Socom, Afrika, Kingdom Hearts, Loco Roco, and Tekken 6. If this list doesn’t make you want to get a PS3 and join the community, then you must already have a PS3 xD

Personally, I’d have to say I enjoy my PS3 more than my 360. In the long run its cheaper… and… very unfortunately, I can’t enjoy my 360 right now because I’m waiting for it to be shipped back. This has been my 4th RROD, and I’m really pissed at this point. With the PS3’s .01% failure rate, and the 360’s 15% (which dropped from about 30%) is still horrible. I played Gears for an entire month hoping my 360 wouldn’t crap out, and it ruined the experience. Why does my 360 break, while my PS3, laptop, iPod, and TV run perfectly?

  35. True Fist of the North says:

i purchased my consoles in this order.

    360
    wii
    ps3

i traded in my wii thinking the ps3 and 360 was enough to keep me busy.

i regret getting rid of the wii and hope to get it again and get rid of the 360.

the 360 has a better online experience. but i’ve had console hardware issues with the 360.

Therefore i play multi console release games on the ps3 cause i know the hardware is reliable and silent on the ps3.

i always get the “360 is better cause of live and has more games” argument but what use is live and all those games if the console is always in need of a repair or its loud fan kills the audio experience?

by the way i never got the RROD, i ended up with the misfortune of poor dvd drive. it would make loud skipping noises and ultimately scratched a few game discs to the point that they were unplayable.

damn better online i’d rather better hardware that gives me a better overall experience.

  36. Alan says:

I have both (and a Wii). I am more impressed with the PS3. I love Uncharted and Ratchet, and Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo will be out this year. The 360 ended up having a lot of “hidden” costs that really ticked me off, such as requiring you to buy a $50 package to use the optical port I need for my stereo with HDMI. Microsoft purposely made it not fit unless you buy their $50 adaptor, which is pretty shady. You also have to pay for online, and the hard drives are proprietary and are ridiculously overpriced. I’m also concerned about the RROD. The 360 does have some nice exclusives, such as Mass Effect, Crackdown, and Gears. I also am a happy owner of the Valve-coded (as opposed to EA-coded) Orange Box, which is my favorite 360 game. I’ve never gotten into Achievements; it seems like a lame idea, as these “points” don’t unlock or give you anything, but I know many go wild over them. To each his own, I guess. Both have their merits, but the PS3 looks more impressive to me and is about to have a summer that includes the powerful trio of Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, and Grand Theft Auto IV, and there will be games like Resistance 2, GT5, Final Fantasy XIII, a new game from Team ICO, ect on the way after that. I also can’t wait for Gears 2 and especially Fable 2 on the 360, but overall PS3 looks more promising from this point on because the have such a diverse lineup of incredible titles on the way and features a very quiet, reliable piece of hardware, as well as great multimedia features.

  37. Ahmed says:

I always play my ps3 and i dont really play my 360 i’m bored off paying every single year the ps3 i just the console to buy because off the games that are coming out for it cold motorstorm 2 best game ever is going to be resistance 2 best game mgs4 great game and haze great game home as welll so if you are going to buy are 360 dont buy it because off the dead ring happend to me twice i got are new one do so i’m selling it bye get PSN-ID add me PimpGamer2k8_123

  38. Alan says:

I favor the PS3, though I’d have a hard time telling you why. It’s the first playstation I’ve owned (I had an xbox last-gen). It just looks and feels like a better console. What’s odd is that I definitely have more 360 games than ps3 games, and have more friends on live than PSN, and usually when I do play online, it’s on Live. Still, I like the PS3 better. Maybe it’s just because though they’re giant corporations, MS is the one I trust the least, Sony rootkit and other messes notwithstanding.

Maybe it’s just the RROD thing. I haven’t been affected yet, and that’s driving me crazy. I have an import 360, which likely would not be covered by MS’ local exchange program, so when it goes, it goes. Whenever I turn it on I hesitate and wonder ‘Is this it? Will I have to buy a new console?’ The noise isn’t especially reassuring (and I keep a fan pointed at it whenever I play, so noise is even more an issue). In comparison, the PS3 just seems like a better experience, it just seems like much more impressive hardware.

And while I couldn’t care less about gamerscores, I do like achievements, they give me something to strive for. Though the two PS3 games I own DMC4 and Burnout) both have their own achievement system, so it’s something of a non-issue.

  39. miyako says:

    I’ve been into the 360 more lately because of Lost Odyssey, but for multiplatform games I nearly always go for the PS3 version because: The PS3 is much quieter; The Sixaxis controller feels better than the 360 controller to me; HDMI means that PS3 games tend to look a bit sharper compared to the 360 - which is hooked up over component cables; The PS3 is much quieter (worth mentioning twice); I don’t have to worry about my PS3 going RROD; I can easily back up my gamesaves from my PS3 onto a USB thumbdrive, so even if the PS3 goes TU I’m not out as much as when the 360 eventually dies; More people have 360’s, so for hot new games it’s easier to find a copy of the PS3 version;

I also use the PS3 for watching movies almost exclusively now (except for content I get off the Xbox Live Video Marketplace, which I do use all the time for a few shows) since the PS3 upscales, has BluRay, and will easily talk over UPnP to my linux box for streaming video recorded with MythTV. The PS3 also doesn’t have the annoying habbit of putting the controller to sleep so I can’t easily pause in the middle of a video.

Overall, as it stands, the PS3 and 360 get nearly equal usage; but if Sony offered up something similar to the Xbox Live Video Marketplace, had a few more RPGs, and a wider offering of games on the Playstation Network, the 360 would quickly get relegated to third class status behind the PS3 and Wii.

The XBox 360 is used in my home MUCH more than the PS3 or the Wii.
The MediaCenter uses and the games are the key.
The PS3 has been around since its launch at our house.
It was purchased with GREAT anticipation and we waited for its first great games, with the graphics we were hoping would leave us as breathless as promised. As it turns out, it hasn’t - YET.
The XBox 360 has been the gaming console of choice and has remained as strong as it did when we first got it. PS3 gets used mostly as a movie player, which it is very good at, although it will not work with my Harmony remote. I do imagine - and hope, that Sony will finally concentrate on games now that its virtues as the “next” disc format are all but guaranteed. I really expected everybody would drift away from the XBox when we got the other consoles - Especially the Wii, but it just has not happened. Everyone wants to use the 360, The Wii only gets used when company comes over.
We had to get another 360 so we all get a chance to use it in different rooms.
    Thats our story!

I have a ps3 I just got my 360 2 weeks ago… I was lookin for something to tide me over until mgs4 comes out. I immediately got Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed (no, i didnt get the ps3 version cuz it runs like crap). But I gotta say… I only ever find myself playing my 360 when 1 of my friends from school wants 2 play halo 3 online. I dont find xbox live to be anything special either… I know now that im probably not gonna pay $50 for the year of gold (i have the 1 month trial) cuz the main thing I do on my ps3 is download a whole lot of new stuff from the store every update. But with the 360, I can’t even find my way through the store marketplace cuz it has 2 many sup-stores and categories and stuff and it doesnt just have 1 big page where u can c ALL of the new stuff. And some ps3 I know have told me I that the sound quality is terrible since it’s compressed audio. I don’t agree that its terrible but its a step down from the ps3’s uncompressed audio. I tried an experiment with the audio too. I tried them both hookt ^ 2 a normal SD tv with normal stereo speakers and didn’t notice a difference. It was only when I hookt them ^ 2 my surround sound speakers and hdtv and then i noticed a diff.

Even with ALL of that said.. I am currently playing my 360 right now since im having a ps3 game slump and haven’t gotten a new ps3 game since uncharted/orange box/cod4 (got them all @ the same time)

I SRSLY DON’T MEEN 2 BASH THE 360. ITS A GOOD CONSOLE BUT THOSE R THE REASONS Y I DONT RLY LIKE IT THAT MUCH.

I also tried out my friend’s psp and now i’m wishing i had gotten it instead D=

    Simple:

    360 is better now
PS3 will become better than the 360 in summer/autumn

    Arguments?
360 has reached it’s limit with it’s games, last year, were a big hit. And yes I am aware of the release of Gears of war 2. It will be a good game, don’t get me wrong, but it’s still only one game that the 360 has to offer this year, seeing as I’m not the RPG kind of guy.

PS3 has so many good exclusive games coming out this year, I can’t even name them all. Some of them include MGS4, Killzone 2 and LBP.

XBL you say? Sure, it’s better than PSN. But when Home is released in summer, XBL will be eating the PSN’s dust. Achievements will be introduced and in-game communication will be enhanced. So how can the 360 defend itself against the PS3’s wave of games, online features etc.? Maybe Gears of War 2 will be a great selling game. Maybe Microsoft has something up their sleeves. Only time will tell.

And 2009? The PS3 already has games in store for 2009 like God of War 3 and Shadow of the Colossus 2. 360? I’ve heard a rumor that Gearbox will make Halo 4.

If you have any opinions about what I wrote holla at my email: nickels_n_dimes@graffiti.net

CHECK OUT THE HIPHOPGAMERSHOW it has tons of information that you guys are discussing right now it’s a great show go check it out. PSNID: HIPHOPGAMER2
To me PS3 is better than 360 but i do have both and i’m not biased check this out. name another advantage that 360 has over ps3 currently besides online??? the only thing you can see is that it has rumbe and achievements also you can mention the video store but i don’t use that at all because you don’t own anything in it once you down load unless in some occasions the thing is free. Correct ok in a few short months ps3 will have in-game xmb and home making the ps3 the better online choice because you will have the same functions as xbox live but you get them for free and home brings a real live virtual world community without even having to play games to make friends that’s just a little bit of what i’m a give you now but go on to the HIPHOPGAMERSHOW OK http://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/JACKAL33 i think you will enjoy i have over 100 videos posted so there’s alot to see thank you and god bless

  44. Sydion says:

I had both but got rid of my 360. I play my system for their exclusives and then get multi-platform titles on PS3 as I prefer the controls and I’ve found a smoother frame rate on most of the current titles on PS3. I’ve got enough friends on PSN and I really didn’t care about all the other items on Marketplace beyond demos as music and movies were handled by my computer and PS3 blu ray respectively.

I’ll be getting another 360 and possibly modding it so I can play games like Fable 2 and Lost Odyssey but otherwise with the horizon demonstrating a new life for PS3 I can’t see myself favouring the 360 over it.

  45. Chris says:

I play my PS3 more than my 360. I have and will only buy 360 exclusive games and as for multi-platform games I buy them for my PS3, unless I have heard that the 360 version is much better.

Only a few games have come out for the 360 that I am interested. More PS3 games have been released that I want to play including multi-platform games.

I only have a few real-life friends that own 360s and I never play online with them and I regret paying for a year with Live, since the only online games for 360 that I have are Team Fortress 2 and Gears of War. Plus, I never play online with any of them. I have actually made friends through PSN and talk to them regularly unlike XBL.

  46. trevor says:

I find myself getting the multi platform games for 360 because all my friends have 360’s. If it wasn’t for that reason i would definitely do most of my gaming on the ps3. It’s so much more quiet and more reliable. My 360 just recently developed a new noise that sounds as if the disc drive was going to come apart while it’s spinning. Even when the damn thing idles in the dashboard its like 3 times as loud as the ps3 at full load. ANNOYING

  47. Will says:

I have to wonder if everybody is honest when they even the most basic elements of what they say is so factually incorrect…
@ GerardWilliams - Besides rumble, and achievements, and the Mediacenter abilities, and its VAST library as starter advantages…ALL content from the video store is OWNED. You can download it and delete it and download it again forever at no cost, and on any console you own, even a replacement console if your breaks down and you are shipped a replacement. Ownership is tied to YOU by your gamertag, Not the console.
MOVIES however, are NOT owned. They, like a rental from Comcast or any of the “pay per view” services are rented, and can be watched as often as you want in the time period allowed by the service.
The movie rental on XBox live is within a two week period of purchase, and viewable as often as you like within 24 hours after you start your first viewing. It’s standard fare.
I think that your “in a few short months ps3 will have in-game xmb and home making the ps3 the better online choice because you will have the same functions as Xbox live but you get them for free” argument becomes less valid every day…That “few short months” has been since November 2006. I think I question your definition of “short”.
And FREE does not mean better. I could eat grass for free and live, but I’ll take the steak - and be happy to pay for it…Why?
    Because I consider it “better”.
Life is all about choice…and people will, and should, pick their favorite after careful consideration to what it is they really want.

XBOX 360 Premium since July 2006,
    Wii since January 2007,
    PS3 80G since November 2007,
XBOX 360 Elite since March 2008.

I find I enjoy my 360 much more, PS3 really only gets attention for BluRay movies…

But I do buy PS3 version of multiplatform games since my brother only *HAD* the PS3 till FW2.17 bricked his. Now he’s enjoying the XBOX experience on my launch console while I’m enjoying the “quieter” Elite.

“and my reason for said switch is the 360’s hardware failure of epic proportions. it is the only reason one needs really.”

Not so fast, here’s my score:
    FW2.17 brick = 1 out of 2
    RROD = 0 of out 2
WiiMoteSmash = 0 out of gaziillion swings
breaking wooden objects by knocking on them so much - PRICELESS!

  49. infekt says:

    I have all three consoles.

But PS3 is my fav. It has the brightest future. Better controller. Better Media Center. Promising online community features to come (In-Game Chat, Home, etc.). And solid exclusives for 08 release.

  50. Jim says:

I own all current generation consoles (including handhelds) and fortunately I can choose the best version I play.

If the games are “equal” I’ve got a preference of PS3 over Xbox 360 (because of free online play) and NDS over PSP (because I like the touch screen so much).
