We here at the MTV Multiplayer blog appreciate all the attention paid to MTV News intern Billie Edington’s valiant quest to make a Master Chief costume for Halloween.
Really, we do.
But when you go and steal our ideas and make us feel bad, we can only do one thing.
Steal ‘em right back.
So, Kotaku, you had your fun with your little “Halo” helmet post. Now we’ll show the people how it’s done. Because unlike you, we remember what our math teachers taught us in middle school. We show our work.
To see how Billie made mincemeat out of the “Halo” helmet and then turned said mincemeat — plus an MTV baseball hat — into a Halloween “Halo” helmet, watch the oh-so-simple 27-step process.
Word is, folks, that the costume is complete. Will we see it on Halloween? Stay tuned. It could be like waiting for the Great Pumpkin. Or not.

Awesome!

hahaha… MTV go back to music and stay out of games.

Kotaku > MTV. Not only does Kotaku pwn MTV. This is a lame attempt to get attention for this pitiful blog by using kotaku’s name. Shame on you! WOoo Brian Crecente!
October 29th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
LOL. it doesnt matter if you had an idea first, if somebody implements it before you do, its their thing. FYI you’re not the first blogsite who were looking into it. Everybody (even the consumer base) was thinking on gutting the thing and showing a step by step process whether its to their friends or a wider audience.
Kotaku: 1 MTV: 0.
I agree with the above post, go back to music and stay out of games, because lord knows how you fail at even giving coverage of good music.
MTV = Epic failure.

There’s music on MTV????
October 29th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
lol lame
step 5 there’s a visible print of Crecente’s Guide on making the helmet. Not only do you fail at making a complete guide, your using a guide yourself to make a guide… kinda lame and repetative at the same time.

kotaku had this story way before you guys, and who cant figure this out themselves. It is a matter of unscrewing it and gluing it back together. really hard
October 29th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
Guys, stop being dicks. These guys at MTV have a job to do just like everyone else. I love Kotaku too but I’m sure they wouldn’t want you to rip on an intern. Lay off.

If you actually pay attention to gaming news, you’d know that this blog is easily the equal of Kotaku in prestige, not only that, Totillo is a well-respected journalist, sparring with N’Gai Croal of Newsweek, showing up on the 1up Yours podcast, and any number of other things.
So he works for MTV, big deal. Doesn’t make it less of a valid news outlet. Kotaku had it first, yes, but without a step-by-step guide. That’s why Crecente linked this. So, long story short, go back to 4chan and *~#* in your own pond.

good job mtv intern! you earned yourself a job

Well, in research having an idea doesn’t really give you the rights over it. Lets say someone publishes an article about games and the influence that blogs have on games.. and then in the end they mention , “In the future, it may prove interesting to do research on the amount of time the type of people that spend the most time responding to blogs, and how that affects grades in school”.. well, that author does not have the rights over that proposed idea.. unless they were already working on that idea by the time the paper was published. But, if they haven’t then another researcher can pick up that idea and do the actual research. Event hough the first researcher might be credited for putting the idea out there, the person that would actually have the rights to that research and be credited for doing that type of work first would be the 2nd researcher (even if they got the idea from the first researcher). In other words, putting the idea out there doesn’t mean you accomplished anything. If newton had proposed the idea of wouldn’t it be cool if pysics was relative.. but did none of the actual calculations were actually done by him.. he would have received no credit. So, yah… the sad thing is that big corporations often have the money and time (or power to force employees to use their time) to do proposed ideas first.. unless you keep it on the low down. Yup.. whatever.

So why do we call it MTV when there are so many ?$%*?*@ reality tv and dating shows?
Don’t pollute games with this filth

Great guide, now if you come up with a step by step guide to get MTV back on track -
1. Get rid of drama shows
2. Play music? ( I know it’s crazy)
3. Profit?

Jesus, war with Kotaku. We’re going to need pictures of Halo-clad Billie doing lots of stupid Halloween tricks.
October 30th, 2007 at 7:39 am
Lol @ MTV being a valid news outlet. More like a Brain-cleaning initiative.
October 30th, 2007 at 11:18 am
Wow! There’s alot of sensitive gamers out there. Some of you guys need a hug.
October 30th, 2007 at 11:25 am
I guess Kotaku readers get a little nervous around women.
October 30th, 2007 at 11:57 am
Wow. Your process sucks, Krazy glue? Too cheap to go and get real model cement?
October 30th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Here’s the thing, gaming cool, MTV not. MTV should stop trying to get into things they shouldn’t. You bloggers and gamers that work for MTV, please leave the company, you’re cool, the company is not, it makes you lose credability and really, what real gamer reads MTV. MTV needs to go where clear channel needs to go, some dark ditch on the side of the road to be forgotten and urinated on by wild animals.

you know what’s cool? Grammatically correct English. That being said - I don’t understand the cool thing. Yeah, maybe TRL sucks, but MTV is also Rock Band, GameTrailers, Vice magazine, Comedy Central (John Stewart’s cool, right?). It’s a big-ass company (do you not like the Jackass movie? South Park?), so it’s a litttle hard to hate on everythig it does. If you like the content these guys write, read it. If not, don’t.

I think this is amazing - Billie is brilliant. You guys and your keyboard confidence need to get a life. She did good - get over it.
