Missed checking the Multiplayer blog at some point this week? Of course you didn’t! But in case you want to read our wonderful words over and over again, here’s a rundown of what happened:
NINTENDO BLOW-OUT:
* Reporting from the Nintendo Summit in San Francisco, Multiplayer editor Stephen Totilo told us about his hour-long hands-on with “Super Mario Galaxy.” (Note: it may take you an hour just to read it).
*He also got to see Mario’s most impressive jump and what a quick, crazy place Mario’s “Galaxy” really is.
* Then, Totilo sat down with Nintendo’s Nate Bihldorff to discuss the “Metal Gear” sequences in “Smash Bros.” as well as the Mario voice-actor’s first trip to Japan.
*Totilo also pondered the point of Nintendo’s last-minute hype, particularly for “Metroid Prime 3” and “Battalion Wars 2,” which got people talking. What’s up, Nintendo?
FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK:
* We showed how to assemble (and disassemble) the “Rock Band” drum kit. (Totilo is to video game peripheral videos as Julia Child is to cooking shows.)
* Pop-rock band Cartel weighed in on whether or not playing the “Rock Band” drums is like playing the real thing. Also, the Xbox 360 achievements were confirmed.
FIRED-UP MUSCIANS:
* Watch the singer of death metal band Cannibal Corpse get a little carried away when talking about his favorite game, “World of Warcraft.”
And there was more…
REGULAR FEATURES:
* In the Pronunciation Guide, Morgan Gray, producer of this fall’s upcoming “Tomb Raider: Anniversary” taught us the right way to say “Lara Croft.”
* In “What We’re NOT Playing,” we discussed our ambivalence towards skating games and the need for “Donkey Kong” to get an extreme makeover.
* Contributor Jason Cipriano’s “Smash Bros.” achievements quest has been altered a little bit due to the game’s delay… not to mention his mood around the office (grumpier than ever).
* This week’s $13.37 Gamer pick: Pac-Man mousepads! Because you play “Pac-Man” with a mouse.
OTHER STUFF WE DID:
* Totilo asked Ready At Dawn and Capcom to shorten the port of “Okami” for the Wii. That’s right: shorten it.
* The PS3 price drop and lack of backwards compatibility caused a stir. Does BC still matter?
* Actor Seth Green headlines the cast of “Mass Effect,” and he talked to us about his character, a witty pilot named Joker. He said the game is like a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book. Remember those?
* And the “Move of the Year” award goes to… “Portal.” (It should probably also get “Mindf–k of the Year.”)
* See how you might look playing “Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis” on the Wii. Certainly not as cool as our own Gerald Flannory.
* MTV News intern Billie Edington gave an update on how her Master Chief Halloween costume is coming along. Will she succeed in her mission?
