Crackdown is pretty great. It?s so great, that it?s kept me from sending my Xbox to get it?s DVD drive repaired for about a week now. It?s one of those games that comes along ?- similar to some of the XBLA games -- that are just fun. The game is fairly devoid of a plot, but for some reason I?m okay with that, possibly because shooting things with the homing rocket launcher is so satisfying that it makes up for the short and mostly unsatisfying ending. Either way, now that the best Xbox sandbox game is available to the general public I can share that fun with everyone on my friends list. My first attempt, however did not go so well...
Last night, circa midnight (otherwise known as ?The Gaming Hour? in my apartment), I decided to jump into one of my friends games, let?s call him betaslavetowno*, and I encounter my first true annoyance.
You see, I had jumped the gun and downloaded the four free characters for the game (anything free is awesome), and apparently that made my version of Crackdown incompatible with betaslavetowno?s brand spankin' new version. Odd. When it's late I usually don't have the ambition to figure stuff like this out so I started playing Tapper. Apparently, in order me us to do a little co-op killing, he had to exit his current game, go and download the four new characters and then restart. Not necessarily the smoothest transition to play the game. Either way, it all worked out in the end and my super-maxed out character totally helped blow away a couple of the gang leaders for betaslavetowno?s city, and for that, he owes me his life.
